The spanners in the works are I'm 50 and fat (size 20). I know it will be a bit of a mission but MNetters please help.

I'm 5'8" and although have a stomach I'm pretty much in proportion body wise iykwim.

Need top of arms covered. Thought a light colour as it will be summer and I wear a lot of navy for work.

Aiming for sophisticated older woman. However I'm not sure if I have strayed into too safe zone with these dresses.

Really like the back of this dress, not sure about the sleeves

ginabacconi.com/gina-bacconi-crepe-chiffon-dress-sequin-trim.html

Hides the tum but is it too bling.

ginabacconi.com/dresses/gina-bacconi-crepe-dress-with-chiffon-cape.html

Like the back but not as much as no. 1 and is it a bit too floaty?

ginabacconi.com/mother-of-the-bride/moss-crepe-dress-and-chiffon-cape-13205.html

Too mother of the bride?

Honest opinions and any other suggestions welcomed.

Could you do navy or black shoes/bag if you go for grey? What tights would you wear, it any?

I have to say that grey number 1 was fabulous and elegant. But they are all lovely, honestly. When you described your colouring it made me wonder if grey would wash you out - depends on your skin tone, which only you will know.

MurunB · 22/04/2017 08:03

Another fan of the grey sequin dress here. I think, depending, on your skin tone, it could make you look fabulously elegant and glowing, rather than washed out. All the colours suggested are great though.

I wish I could afford these dresses - they're so lovely!

eeyore2 · 22/04/2017 08:25

I love 1 and 2, also quite like 4. They are so chic. Fabulous choice for a wedding!

ThunderClouds · 23/04/2017 19:07

I love 1 and 2, in the cool grey to set off your blue eyes and blonde hair. I think silver jewellery would look great, with maybe a brighter cool shade for shoes such as teal or turquoise?

Tartyflette · 26/04/2017 20:33

I am a size 18 and I'd be careful about the coral red if I were you I had a lovely light red cowl-necked tunic top that I thought looked fabulous until I saw photo of me in it.
OMG. A veritable sea of red.
I kid you not, if there was a stripe down the middle you'd expect to see Moses and the Children of Israel making their way across my chest.
So ---- take photos!

Blueink · 26/04/2017 20:34

The cape dress in periwinkle will be most flattering and work best with your colouring. Beautiful for a summer wedding.

This is the one xx

Dianella · 26/04/2017 20:47

Unless you have very slim legs I wouldn't choose those shoes. A medium-high heel grey or nude court would be much classier imo.

thatgirlcalledkyle · 26/04/2017 20:48

Number 1 is gorgeous!

Maverick66 · 26/04/2017 21:02

Hi OP

Have you checked Jacques vert website they have very similar dresses reduced.
I too am a size 20 50 year old. Whilst some of Jacques is very old fashioned some of their stuff is gorgeous and the fit is fabulous.

Itshellofromme · 26/04/2017 21:19

Really gorgeous dresses especially number 1.

SwirlingCockatoo · 26/04/2017 21:23

The sequin trim one in pale grey. Sounds like you have the right colouring.

Blueink · 26/04/2017 22:07

Based on your posts, my suggestion was pale blue number 4, ginabacconi.com/moss-crepe-dress-and-chiffon-cape-13211.html# however is apparently out of stock in size 20.

Had a look at Maverick's suggestion too, follow the above link to a classier take on (style), colour & value of the 1st dress. This would be my 2nd choice dress! X

goingmadinthecountry · 26/04/2017 23:08

How funny! Most of your Gina Bacconi dresses have been on my Pinterest what to wear to a wedding! I have two weddings this summer - same people so different dress even though Dh doesn't understand!! Love the shoes but I think they are too busy for what you need. I'd go a bit more classic but glam - LK Bennett style nude heels.

I'm not going to buy one of those lovely dresses (53 and similar size though currently avoiding all carbs) - not me. I'm thinking Bombshell at the moment. Wear what you're happy in - too many times I've worn what I think people expect. All those dresses are gorgeous.

datestamp12 · 27/04/2017 09:42

My current favourite colour combo is pale gray (like your dress) and a mustardy yellow, not too bright though. These ones from Boden are lovely. Boden
The thing about the ones that you posted is that they are terribly fussy at the front. What looks more elegant and slimming are shoes with no straps around the front, so that your shin carries on down along the front of your foot uninterrupted kinda thing. Make your legs look loads slimmer and longer. Fussy straps cut your ankles off too short.

Or the silver ones would look lovely with pale grey too.

I liked the coral and the grey until I saw maverick's the Jacques vert floaty blue number, stunning!

MeMyElfandI · 27/04/2017 18:09

Sorry wasn't too well this week so apologies for no responses.

Yes will definitely have look at Jacques Vert dresses. Liking Hot Squash dress but don't know if I am too lumpy for such sleek styles but saw a lovely box pleat skirt on there which I have my eye on for work so thank you Maverick and NK.

Love those Boden shoes you linked to Date and will order them.

The Boden sandals have arrived in the navy and they are lovely and despite being nearing 4" high fairly comfortable and also hide my bunion. Even if I don't use for wedding I think I may keep them.

Fashions advisors I also need you to get thinking hats on for what I can wear to hen weekend. I can do the casual stuff during the day ok. But what can I wear to wine bar and club with a loads of lovely 20 somethings. Don't want to be reliving my youth but would like to not be boring so suggestions for something a bit elegant/ edgy for fat 50 yr old please.

Just reporting back as my Gina Bacconi dress arrived.

Ordered this one ginabacconi.com/dresses/gina-bacconi-moss-crepe-dress-with-cape-detail.html in the grey and navy. Going to keep the grey. The blue was nice as well but I think the grey better for a summer wedding.

Sizing wise pretty spot on, but one negative is the dress isn't lined which at that price I would expect it to be.

It's fabulous OP, I hope you feel amazing wearing this dress

teawamutu · 05/05/2017 22:23

It's fabulous, you'll look amazingSmile

teawamutu · 05/05/2017 22:25

I didn't even see Snog's post so we must both be right.

MeMyElfandI · 06/05/2017 10:33

Thanks Snog and Tea. The Boden sandals arrived as well www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/womens-shoes-boots/heels/ar825-nav/womens-navy-octavia-heels and also order bag ro match www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/womens-accessories/bags-wallets/am280-bpk/womens-summer-poppy-octavia-clutch .

Sandals lovely, high but don't dig in and I can walk in them, not sure about dancing. Bag ok does not have the same impact as sandals.

Haven't tried them on with dress yet.

Showed dress on line to a few friends and they think it is good even toshowed it to some of the young'uns at work as well and they said it was fine so think it is a keeper.
