GRUMPYGIRL · 10/03/2007 12:31

Oh I had to stop for a girl on a zebra crossing yesterday and I though "my arse is probably that big but at least I know better than to wear skinny jeans". God its like sticking a big arrow at your bum to draw attention to it.

Im sure if you are skinny they look fine but they just seem a bit 80s to me, which I guess is fine if you havent "been there" already.

Bucketsofdynomite · 10/03/2007 16:21

I quite like the principal boy thing, makes me feel like Adam Ant, esp with my long coat swishing behind as I strut the pushchair down to preschool.

HEIFER · 10/03/2007 16:43

So Cod - what exactly should HEIFERS wear then...

Suggestions please...

I am short (5.3ish) fat (size 20ish) and huge norks...

I live in trousers...

legs ok (for a heifer)

but huge (enormous) stomach...

get the picture?

Suggestions welcome - and no tent comments please (done to death)...

Boco · 10/03/2007 16:49

I think skinny jeans look ok with long tops - not with short tops though. I wear them with long boots and long tops so the shape isn't too triangle and theres no fear of stretch over buttocks which always looks alarming. I'm a size 10 - always used to be a bit prepubescent before having children, so quite glad of a bit of curve now.

Lucycat · 10/03/2007 16:51

mmmm i did when asking for haircut advice!! not much point asking if you couldn't see me!

gorn now though

Ellbell · 10/03/2007 16:52

I 'did' skinny jeans the first time round (c. 1980-82). I had a pair with white piping down the leg. Thought they were the dog's doo-dahs. Have probably been too fat for them since... ooh... about 1983!

GRUMPYGIRL · 10/03/2007 17:03

Still we all make style mistakes when younger. I once wore white jeans, a white top & white trainers - I must have looked like a walking tampon.

lionheart · 10/03/2007 17:25

I've been reliably informed that I have the fashion sense of a bag lady

so I know I should wheel my trolley over to the style section ... someday.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 10/03/2007 17:54

Oh yes - some of the photos of me in the eighties are cracking. Specs a la Deidre Barlow and very dodgy hair style.

RustyBear · 10/03/2007 18:16

at MB - I only came on this thread to find out wtf FOCRED was meant to be - I can usually translate Codese, but that one stumped me.
Now I'm here I'll say that imo no-one older shorter or fatter than my DD should ever wear skinny jeans

lionheart · 10/03/2007 18:16

I guess you could post a before and after the stylists get their hands on you...

Flamesparrow · 10/03/2007 18:20

I've posted a shoe one... do you want a pic of my calves and ankles?

I did post when I wanted hair advice

HEIFER · 10/03/2007 20:10

Well that's a lot of use then for me for the dinner and dance next Saturday then!

Um 3 dress sizes in a week.... probably not

You are right of course, far more choice when slimmer, but was hoping for a little bit more help from the stylie gurus...

Bucketsofdynomite · 10/03/2007 20:31

Heifer you can wear stretch jeans or leggings under a kimono-style empire-line top eg so nobody can see your muffin top. Jeans should be worn with heeled boots but short people look good in leggings and girlie pumps. In fact a sparklier top, black leggings and any pumps might even do for evening.

HEIFER · 10/03/2007 22:18

thanks bucket..

Jeans and top sound ok for a less formal do - but this one will be quite a posh affair...

No way would I wear leggins outside of my house! sorry just wouldn't, but thanks for your help (at least you did help)...

MrsSpoon · 10/03/2007 22:24

I think skinny jeans can be fab with some of the longer line tops/too short for a woman over 30 dresses that are around just now. I'm loving mine, however I got a pair of those high waisted wide legs and love those too!

MrsSpoon · 10/03/2007 22:25

Oh and IMO still longer line tops with the high waist jeans, to cut the bum in half but if they are wide legs not too much volume on the top.

brimfull · 10/03/2007 22:31

15yr old dd and her friends all look fab in their skinnies....,but then they are all a size 8 .
Their time will come mwahaha!

RustyBear · 11/03/2007 18:18

That's what I always tell DD - once I was as skinny as her - but she doesn't believe it'll happen to her
