Cos clothes - any thoughts?

A friend has just highly recommended Cos clothes. I had a quick look on the website, and it all looks a bit... well, odd.

Doe it all look a lot better on?

Question about the slim leg trousers - what size should I get? I'm a 10/12 on the bottom, slim legs and hips but a bit of a tummy.

phoolani · 16/04/2017 00:53

I'd go for a 12 (or equivalent). I find their slim leg trousers are, indeed, very slim.
What I'd actually do, of course, is try them on 😬

Theycalledmethewildrose · 16/04/2017 01:31

I'd choose a size 12 Dancer

I'm 5 ft 2, size 10-12 and I disagree with a lot of the PP who say the clothes are only for tall people. Half my wardrobe is from Cos - dresses, trousers, shirts, skirts, jeweilery, tops.

Their knitwear is particularly good. The clothes are great for people with bigger stomachs. I mostly buy online so also disagree that you need to try on everything although I agree that you need to do that if you are unfamiliar/new to Cos clothing. Once you get familiar with them, you can see the style of each item easily from the website.

My main gripe is the cost of shipping and returns. It is too expensive The other thing I find is after buying from them for a number of years, the clothes are all the same. This works to a certain extent ie you know what you will get, you know the same style will come around again but sometimes it would be nice if they changed even a bit. But then again I suppose a number of shops are like this and that is why we shouldn't depend on only a couple of shops without making the effort to look at others too.

reuset · 16/04/2017 01:41

You've linked to the only decent things I can see on the whole site, Countfoscoe. Grin I do like that skirt and breton, not togther of course.

The white ensembles look super slick and cool on the sci fi looking models, but I'd only need add a hairnet and I'd be canteen worker ready!

Dancergirl · 16/04/2017 08:16

So would that be a 38 then?

TinfoilHattie · 16/04/2017 08:26

I have a top from Cos - not bought there, from the charity shop. It's navy blue stretchy jersey, three quarter length sleeves, bit of a floatier bit round the bottom. It's quite plain and simple but I wear it with jeans and wear a bright scarf or necklace with it. It fits well and it's well made - it does say dry clean only but I ignore that, stick it it in the machine and it's fine.

I'm impressed with it overall - will definitely be keeping my eyes peeled for other Cos items.

Destinysdaughter · 16/04/2017 08:30

Just looked at their dresses, it's the Communist era Eastern bloc collection, complete with miserable models! They really are not v flattering...

Floisme · 16/04/2017 10:14

I always feel I have to chip in to atone for all the times I was rude about them!

I like CountFosco's point about Cos being a kind of Anti-Hush. Take that skirt she links (page 1): Hush would style it on that stunning, smiley model they use and make it look elegant and easy to wear. But then I send for it and of course it's way too short and doesn't hang nearly as well on me as on the model (and starts to bobble after two weeks). So then I'm pissed off with them. Cos, on the other hand, set out to make their clothes look as difficult and inaccessible as possible.... There must be some kind of reverse psychology going on but I've not had enough coffee yet to work it out.

Theycalledmethewildrose · 16/04/2017 10:55

Dancer Size 12 is a 38.

I am size 12 for bottoms and am a 38 in Cos and size 10 for tops/dresses and am size S. HTH.

Theycalledmethewildrose · 16/04/2017 11:00

Flois Totally agree about Hush v Cos. Hush have mediocre to poor quality clothes styled beautifully and Cos have great quality/design but mediocre styling. Cos is perhaps a little 'older' which for me as someone in her 40s is a relief as I'm not quite at Phase 8 stage yet!

wiltingfast · 16/04/2017 11:19

I really love cos and am another short arse (5'3") I style a lot of their shift dresses with a white shirt underneath for work.

Looking at those dresses i clearly need to do another raid!

They've a plain white shirt that's an a absolute staple of mine too. here it is

they have it all the time.

Naicehamshop · 16/04/2017 12:17

Thanks for all the replies - really helpful. I'm going to give it a go with a couple of items - I'll report back! Grin

Another short person who loves Cos. My only gripe is that there are so few stores out of London! My three closest ones are between 50 and 90 miles away!

Went to the one in Leeds yesterday and walked out with a large bag full. Comfy sofa for dh and dd to lounge wile I mooched. Perfect

Agree their basics are fab. Have avoided trousers so far but will def try after reading recommendations from petite folk on this thread

ArriettyClock1 · 16/04/2017 13:58

I like their stuff but to look good in it you need to be at least 5'7 and slim, imo.

Theycalledmethewildrose · 16/04/2017 14:02

I hope you don't have to be tall to look good. Hmm

I'm 5 ft 2 and half my wardrobe is from Cos. I think you have to know what suits your body shape though and be aware that some styles you like won't necessarily look good on you.

phoolani · 16/04/2017 17:19

This is (one of) my white shirt staple(s): I throw it on with skinnies and instantly look like I've made a bit of an effort because it's got s bit of drama to it. Also great if you're a bit pear shaped.

Cos clothes - any thoughts?
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 16/04/2017 17:51

How creased do their white shirts get? I quite like the white shirt look, but the ones I've got from M&S crease as soon as you look at them.

BoboChic · 16/04/2017 17:55

I am not always a Cos fan but this season I am incredibly impressed and have bought three shirts, two skirts, a pair of trousers, a cardigan, a sweater and a dress from Cos, all of which I adore.

IMO the white/black/grey stuff is to be avoided in Cos. The more colorful stuff is great, however.

itssquidstella · 16/04/2017 18:03

I have a beautiful silk top from Cos, and a great work dress which has washed really well and is going strong after three years. Agree a lot of the stuff looks awful on the hanger (and not all of it is cut to suit me), but it's definitely worth trying things on - there are bound to be a few pieces that work on you, and the ones that work, work.

phoolani · 16/04/2017 18:46

Remus, the white shirt I linked to doesn't crease at all and I generally find cos pretty crease resistant.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 16/04/2017 18:50

Thanks, Phoo - will go and investigate at some point next week!

Dulcimena · 17/04/2017 10:56

phoolani I was looking at that shirt online - really helpful to know it doesn't crease. I have a similar cotton one from Cos that stays crease free until around 3pm but then wilts...something that stays looking decent all day would be brilliant.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 17/04/2017 11:41

Now I've gone on their website and want every single thing😭

Naicehamshop · 17/04/2017 15:01

Just ordered a t shirt online (bit tight for money this month!) and having a look on EBay.

Thanks everyone for the help.
