Dying hair bright red!

My 11 year old dd has waist legnth red hair. She wants to dye it bright red (pillar box!) for red nose day. I have questions. Is it possible to do this without using a permanent colour? If there is a semi permanent solution how long will it take to wash out and will it wreck the condition of her hair in the process? We've used spray colour before, but we've never been able to get any inensity of colour. Am I doing something wrong, or using the wrong brand or something? And finally, anyone got any tips on how to talk her out of it?!

I used a red hair wax from superdrug on DS' hair when we went once, only thing is it makes your hair very sticky.

dont do it, red never comes out

i last dyed my hair red about 5 years ago, still comes through

get her a wig!

I would go for a wig too. It took me years to grow red out of my hair.

Tell her that she is too young and you can get awful reactions form hairdye and at her age that is very likely (its not anymore at any age to be honest just as likely at 50!!) but she won;t know that - get some pics from the net of reacvtions and scare the pants off of her - will her school let her DDs school would go mad as it won't come out I am 10 weeks down the line of an auberginey sort of semi and its still hanging around!!

I used to use Stargazer in my hair, which worked really well but did wash out eventually (and I did it onto bleached hair!) On the same website they sell this which should wash out in one shampoo - you'll have to scroll down to find the right colour on both links.

Be careful - red hair (I'm a redhead) is very porous. I find that semi permanent colours take a long time to come out. They leave your hair in quite nice condition though!

Shonaspurtle - thanks for the tip - I think we'll stick to the glitter spray!
