Where to buy (and try on) knickers?

I haven't bought new knickers for a while because it's impossible to know if they'll fit without trying on. My underwear drawer is full of knickers that don't fit.

I'm in my 40s, size 14 with a saggy tum. I reckon good knickers would really help but I'm not looking for Spanx type knickers.

Is there a good brand and a shop that would let me try them on ( obviously over own knickers).

I imagine someone like Victoria's Secret, where they also sell bras might let you? I often buy pants in a size smaller than I am as I think they give better support

Caulk is right on Victoria's secrets and they are really helpful. They don't just do skimpy style they have some really nice short styles etc. I'm definitely heading back there for another stock up. Love their bras too

It doesn't seem that Victoria's Secret is aimed at someone my shape/size. I'd need the style with the greatest coverage and the largest size they come in is Medium. According to their size chart my hips are Large and my waist is Extra Large.

Debenhams let you try on (so long as over your own knickers).

If you ordered online from m&s you could try in at home over your own knickers then send back if unsuitable. I only buy these ones now (in black). Am a 12-14 with a terrible wobbly baby tum and these cover everything while still looking nice. The lace trim means minimal vpl issues as well.

I always go a size bigger too, hate VPL.
I don't think you can return knickers even online- I've always thought of them being like earrings in that respect. Off to check now!

It's very hard to choose online as the models look to be a size 6 but are also photoshopped so there's no way to tell how the knickers will look on a size 14 with no flesh editted off (if only it was that easy). Also there's no detail on how 'controlling' they are. I feel doomed to wear the same pants forever.

This may sound like a bizarre suggestion, but I am a similar size and shape to you from the sounds of it. I buy Tesco seamless shorts. Cheap but perfect. Really comfortable, no VPL, keep my tummy a little in check. I buy a size M and they are fine.

I always go for midi knickers from m and s, good old cotton black ones, nothing fancy but not frumpy either.
Midi are great in that they give good coverage over a wobbly tum without huge full briefs.

A word of warning - I sized up to prevent VPL and my pants keep falling off me. I only went up one size!

I finally bought knickers - having been allowed to try them on in M&S. Just as well I did as I ended up with several sizes.
