I read this yesterday and so much resonated with me, from the coy euphemisms to indicate the size ranges; to knowing there are (so many) shops not to even bother going in; to (oh yes!) the jeans wearing through on the inner thigh! However I don't think I have ever asked a shop assistant for my size. Too mortifying to voice it. Ditto with every taking anyone shopping with me.

That's a great article and thank you for sharing. I'm currently medically obese and a size 16/18 and tend to shop online, although I was pleased to be able to slip into a pair of size 16 ankle skimmers in Primark a couple of weeks ago.

'One size fits all' has never applied to me as I'm 5ft 9in.

I returned to that article just now as I was interested to read the BTL comments.

Pleasingly there was none (that I saw) of the "just exercise more" that you tend to get, but actually a couple of helpful supplier links.

And also a couple of comments that struck a further chord with me:

1. That fat people know they're fat, and don't need telling. Oh what you mean that is why my thighs rub together, gee THANKS!

1. It can be really difficult to find appropriate clothing for this exercise we're supposed to do to lose the chub.

Thankfully there is a lot more available even than there was a couple of years ago. I think there has been a real move towards "Fit, not thin" and brands are realising this is a lucrative segment.

I find clothes shopping so hard. I mostly use ASOS Curve but it's a bit too high fashion sometimes.

That's shockingly rude and that 'sales' assistance is shit at her job.

I have a gorgeous colleague around that size. She is one of the most glam women I have ever met. She shops mostly on eBay she says on e you know your size in specific brands you can't go wrong
