It's that time of year when I hate my legs

Anyone else dread spring/summer and the pressure to have your legs out?
Mine are an ok shape and size but they look awful. I'm covered in those horrible red bumpy spots, my kneecaps are dark and ugly.

Has anyone ever gone from horrid legs to decent ones? I've been moisturising and exfoliating more but it's made no difference Sad

My legs haven't seen the light of day since 1997 and that's no joke.

I just wear jeans throughout the summer. I did once get some harem style trousers but they ripped and I couldn't find any nice ones to replace them.

If you don't want to get your legs out you don't have to. It's never that hot here anyway.

Sleeperandthespindle · 08/04/2017 09:52

Never felt any pressure to get mine out. I do though - shorts in the garden or beach, or for walking the dog or playing with kids.

Maxi dresses for me!

Rainwindandsnow · 08/04/2017 10:09

Have you used coconut oil?
I have those horrible red dots too and have been told its keratosis Pilaris (spelling might be wrong)
Also I bought a coconut moisturiser from Holland and barett which helps with the redness.

I hate summer because of my legs. I have exczema in summer and winter (joy of joys!) and I used to self harm, so I have a few old scars on my legs. I'm learning to give fewer fucks, though - my comfort in warmer temperatures is worth more than what someone might think.

HeyMacWey · 08/04/2017 10:36

The lumps are called keratosis pilaris.
You can use flexitol cream on it which should help get rid of the lumps.

Use exfoliating gloves in the shower.
Try a bit of fake tan too.

But yes, giving less fucks definitely helps :o

Floisme · 08/04/2017 10:41

I'm wearing mostly trousers this summer. My legs look quite decent in opaques but I'm sick of the tanning/waxing/shaving insanity. I really like some of the new trouser shapes and I'm looking forward to wearing them. I also burn easily so I much prefer being covered up.

dinosaursandtea · 08/04/2017 11:59

I have to fake tan and wear opaques next week - bridesmaid duties!

10Betty10 · 08/04/2017 12:04

Body shop mango body butter helps with my leg dots/ridiculous dryness.

namechange20050 · 08/04/2017 12:09

Exfoliate and then use that instant fake tan stuff. Washes off and doesn't transfer into clothes.

Judydreamsofhorses · 08/04/2017 17:42

I decided last summer that I was going to give fewer fucks and get my legs out. I found a style of dress/skirt I liked and was flattering, and bought several versions of it - for me this was midi-length and I wore them with either trainers or Saltwaters. Once I got over the initial angst - mainly because I am super-hairy and can be stubbly within a few hours of shaving - it was great. No-one stared, and I got lots of compliments. I also bought some nude fishnets which were a good entry point. This year I have bought a couple of pairs of wide-legged cropped trews which I've already worn and think will be good with t-shirts in summer.

Therealslimshady1 · 08/04/2017 17:54

I like having bare legs

Happily flash my cellulite and varicose vein ridden legs, with saggy knees...

They are fine really. Just legs.

Who says only models, can get their legs out?!

They'll probably improve with fresh air and a bit of sun! Mine do.

IAmTheWorwax · 08/04/2017 18:08

Fake tan just seems to make the dots look worse on me. Plus I'm really pale so can't go too tanned otherwise I look weird.

Well I embraced the 'no fucks' today and wore a dress with my legs out. Thankfully didn't bump in to anyone I know but I really did a enjoy the breeze! Smile

Well done OP!
No fucks is the best beauty treatment ever.
No one notices your flaws at the level of detail you do and all the best people couldn't care less.

Hot, sweaty and ashamed vs breezy, cool and comfortable in your own skin?
I bet you looked great.

Ollivander84 · 08/04/2017 18:24

I use the palmers anti ageing one. Stinks but gets rid of bumpy bits. Just don't apply after shaving as it stings!!
I'm pale blue and always wear skirts in summer. Today I have a marl grey maxi skirt which is a jersey material but it has a side split. Ballerina converse and a top

Ollivander84 · 08/04/2017 18:26

See? I'm practically see through and also plus size and I have stopped caring. I used to tan but since I started modelling stopped because photographers hate fake tan

It's that time of year when I hate my legs
Idratherhaveacupoftea · 08/04/2017 18:44

You look great, love it.

squoosh · 08/04/2017 18:47

There's a lotion called Ameliorate which contains lactic acid and is good for keratosis pilaris. Lactic acid is the active ingredient.

Mabelface · 08/04/2017 18:49

My legs are white with a hint of blue also, and they've been out today because I don't give a fuck. I've been wearing a midthigh length tunic dress.

IAmTheWorwax · 08/04/2017 19:20

THanks for all the suggestions btw, going to work my way through them.
I don't mind being pale but hate these dots.

I know embracing it is probably the way forward but there's that little vain bit of me that always hopes no one looks too closely.
Anyway I figure the sun can only help my legs so I'm going to try and have them out more often.

Thanks for the support Smile

Does anyone else have constantly itchy legs? I could rip the skin off mine with my nails regularly because of the itching. It's not eczema (I have that elsewhere) but it leaves my legs in a messs because scratching them creates spots that then get scratched off. I've tried exfoliating, moisturising, excluding certain foods from my diet, different types of hair removal, but nothing makes a difference to the constant itch.

HeyMacWey · 08/04/2017 20:20

hairq I had the same problem. I'd wake my husband in the night with my constant scratching.

It stopped when I started epilating rather than shaving.

No idea why, but it was such a relief.

margaritasbythesea · 08/04/2017 21:21

Olivander i am looking for a maxi skirt like that. You didn't happen to get it this season did you? Nice pic Wink

Ollivander84 · 08/04/2017 21:22

I'm in shorts in this one? Was it another thread?

Ollivander84 · 08/04/2017 21:23

Ignore that, I'm being dim!!! I'll have a scan, it was new look
