Hi,
Desperately hoping for some good advice. I realise it's not style exactly, but looking for make up and product recommendations for acne too.

I'm mid thirties, and since having my children my skin has never settled. I suffered from acne as a teenager, in my twenties I was prescribed dianette contraception which was a miracle pill for my skin! When I got married I stopped hormonal contraceptives and everything was ok, even after my firstborn. After my last child my skin got worse, and now 4 years laters it's the worst it's been since I was a teenager. The gp prescribed me tetracycline (the first time it sort of worked) it hasn't had an effect this time round. I feel like it's got so bad I don't want to go outside! I don't want to go back to contraceptives as I don't need to take it anymore, but I don't know there is an alternative. He also recommended sacylic acid as a spot on. I currently use eucerin face wash, witch hazel or clearasil spot on and oil free moisturiser. I use bare minerals make up, and prefer light make up for work rather than heavy foundation.

I'm convinced the acne is hormonal. Does anyone have similar experiences? What medication do you use? What products do you use? What works for you?

Literally any advice appreciated!!!
Thanks

@kennycat my issue is also acne rosacea. The acnecide has completely cleared my skin of the acne and some of the redness, but some redness still remains, however, it is much easier to cover now.

You mentioned that your skin is dry currently - my skin was hugely combination. Oily on my t zone and horrendously dry around my cheeks where the acne was worst. Since the acne has cleared my skin is now normal - no dryness and less oily/greasy sections.

I hope you have success xx

Thanks @missmac84
Is it the gel or face wash that you would recommend?

Missmac84 · 22/04/2017 09:12

@kennycat I use the gel. Whilst I was pregnant the dermatologist suggested using it as a wash in the shower but it did nothing for me. So I use a thin layer of gel each morning now before moisturiser and make up xx

Just wondered how everyone was getting on with the acnecide? xx

MissesBloom · 27/04/2017 11:50

I've been using this for a week and already have seen a massive reduction in the acne. Have some scarring there and scabs so hoping some of that will disappear but really really pleased so far. Not bad for a £6 tube! Have noticed the white marks on my skin someone mentioned upthread but it's a small price to pay. Anyone else tried it yet?

kennycat · 27/04/2017 14:05

Ive bought some acnecidegel from boots and am three or four days in and whe I haven't noticed a difference yet, I can say it hasn't got wore which is a good thing!

Has anyone found a bb or cc cream or something like that that stays on, covers red and doesn't instantly dry the skin? I look fine (ish) for five minutes then have a hot drink or go
outside and it's like I'm back to square one. I don't feel like it slides off but more like it soaks in!

Any ideas?! I've got a sachet of bare minerals complexion rescue to try and am hoping it's the answer and will make me look just like fearne cotton who advertises it. ..

After reading this thread I went to boots and bought the acnecide gel. I'll have been using it for a week tomorrow and the difference is already noticeable. Redness has reduced, spots are shrinking and no more have appeared so far. I'm impressed so far....

Missmac84 · 28/04/2017 09:25

@MissesBloom : I found at the beginning that the white marks were either because I'd put too much on or I hadn't rubbed it in enough x
Good news that it's working!
My rosacea is also starting to fade slightly now too x

lavenderpekins · 28/04/2017 09:37

I could have written your post.

Go back to the gp and ask for zinyert. It's a topical treatment.

My 'beard' of acne has been gone for about 2 years! Such a relief!

Sunshinegirls · 28/04/2017 11:15

I have declared war on my hormonal acne. I have started taking the pill. I wash with acnecide wash. Moisturise with cetaphil. Have a prescribed topical cream called duac for overnight. Am taking vitamin c, d and e. Magnesium and turmeric and pukka "clean green' supplements. Drinking at least 2 litres of water and upping my veg intake. So far so good! Only a couple of weeks in but my skin is definitely improving.

MissesBloom · 28/04/2017 15:45

@Missmac84 great tip thanks for that - had the same issue with another cream I was using (duac?) it said to use a very thin layer...I must be putting it on too thick.

So pleased that something is finally doing the trick, cant believe I've suffered my whole 30 odd years for the sake of getting hold of some cream. Good old mumsnet eh!

Rose2006 · 14/05/2017 18:40

I'm glad my post has helped others too. I went back to dr, he wasn't particularly helpful. He basically said you have to live with it. Then after some badgering he suggested Yasmin contraceptive pill and epiduo cream.

I didn't really want to go back on the pill, as my dh has had a vasectomy, so I don't need it for it's intended purpose, and since it comes with increased health risks, and the acne is supposed to come back tenfold after, I'm reluctant to take it.

I've used the epiduo cream a few times, unfortunately my skin looked like I'd poured acid on it. It was so painful scaley after, I had to run in intensive moisturiser just to ease the soreness. Not great.

So I've now bought some acnecide face wash, and I'm hoping for better results. Im slightly nervous the same redness will happen, but I'm willing to risk anything at this point!

@Rose2006 just wondered how you got on with the acnecide? x

Rose2006 · 19/07/2017 15:11

Hi @missmac84 I have been using the acnecide wash, and there has been some difference, not massive. After re-reading this thread I may switch to the gel.

I have also started on Yasmin pill, early days yet, but hoping for an improvement
