Itchy flaky scalp- maybe even psoriasis? Shampoo please!

My poor scalp has always had a tendency to be flaky but it's awful at the moment. I suspect it may be psoriatic as I feel plaque like bits on the skin- can anyone recommend a shampoo that could help please? I've been trying the orange L'Oreal men's Elvive for months after seeing it recommended on MN, but it just hasn't shifted the problem.

Well you could try Nizoral, or anything with Tea Tree in it.
Neutrogena T Gel is good too.
if it's really bad and affecting your heir growth then it may be worth going to your GP who can prescribe medicated shampoo

I have the same..my scalp comes off in massive chunks.
Underneath it feels greasy ..
I use a tea tree shampoo

Dh has had psoriasis on his scalp and I went to lush and they recommended a shampoo which was great and his scalp improved very quickly. I'm sorry I can't remember the name of it though

Have you tried just going sulphate free

'Simple' shampoo is the only one I can use these days.

Philip Kingsley for itchy scalp. ££ but works.

You might have eczema and your GP could give you Betnovate lotion to apply.

If it's psoriasis then coal tar is your best bet: T-gel is available in chemists. Standard anti-dandruff stuff won't shift it. If T-gel doesn't work, you may need a prescription product.

The Lush one is a solid shampoo bar, soak and float. It works but I personally found being solid it was harder to rinse out than T-gel.

My friend swears by the Philip Kingsley one and she has had chronic problems. Had tried everything and they just stung or made it worse.

I have scalp psoriasis, and find that Nizoral is ok, and Alphosyl 2 in 1 is good. What has really cleared it though is Epsom salts. If I don't have a bath with a cupful in at least twice a week then it starts to flare up again.
I'll try the Body shop ginger one though to see how that goes.

I use a Faith in Nature one - Lemon and Tea Tree.

I had the same thing. I had some ointment on prescription from the docs which cleared it up. Now I use Yes to Cucumbers shampoo and conditioner which keeps it at bay. I find anything with sulphates irritates.

I have tried T-gel, tea tree oil, most shop brands of anti dandruff shampoo but by far the best is Kerastase

clarifying shampoo! Christophe Robin Purifying Scalp Shampoo is amazing for that.

Yes to Body Shop Ginger, Tgel and Nizoral. PK smells nice but is ££. You can get a stronger Nizoral from the pharmacy too. Good luck. Get your GP to tell you if it's scalp psoriasis or sebhorreic dermatitis as they respond to different ingredients in shampoo. It's a horrid thing, either way. You've my full sympathy!

The Body Shop ginger shampoo is the best I've found - my scalp feels great, it smells lovely and leaves my hair looking nice and healthy too.

I have similar, and was led to believe it was psoriasis for years. But actually it is sebhorreic dermatitis (same as cradle cap in babies).

GP recently prescribed Dermax shampoo which you can buy. It worked really well.

I was also prescribed Eumovate cream which is the first cream to work in years. Probably because I was being given treatments for psoriasis not SD.

Body shop ginger is brilliant

Second (third, fourth?) the Body Shop ginger - Philip Kingsley didn't work for me.
