Cracked heels and general troll feet...

parmavioletmartini · 29/03/2017 09:15

I need all your recommendations for nice feet.
I have the worst cracked painful heels, it seems no matter how often I exfoliate or use a ped egg they are thick, dry and crusty. The cracks are so painful and deep, the rest of me is not too bad just hedious troll feet!

Have a good thorough pedicure, where the thicker skin & callouses will be cut off with a razor thing. Then slather your feet in cream before putting socks on every morning. At night, foot cream all over before bed, too.

See Chiropodist initially and then use the flexitol and sleep in socks

TheNoodlesIncident · 30/03/2017 11:16

Flexitol should be applied twice a day for best effect. I bought it after seeing it recommended on here, it's like medicated lard in a way but by gum it does do the trick. I try to keep to morning and night to keep my feet in reasonable condition, otherwise there's too much to do or keep my hooves hidden.

(I've always wondered why some people get really dry, cracked skin on their feet and others never do, even without treatment...)

ThatsNotMyMummy · 30/03/2017 11:24

I have horrific feet, flexitol did nothing, Footner, did nothing. The only thing that comes close is the chiropodists sponges, but still they look awful. I have even got one of those blade things, but that doesn't really do much either .... other than look like parmesan shavings on the floor. Ive slept with socks on, slathered with cream. Ive got one of those stupidly expensive sanders for your feet, just smoothes the grooves but they are still there.

How much roughly can i expect a chiropodist to charge?

Only1scoop · 30/03/2017 11:50

My chiropodist is brilliant and only charges 20 pounds a session. I see her around every 6 weeks just to keep on top of them. I've previously been to a chain of Chiropodists, but it was double the price and no better.

I would like to point out that a pedicure isn't what you would have to treat a foot condition such as this. It's a manicure for the feet. To make them look pretty....cuticles, nails painted etc.

Only1scoop · 30/03/2017 11:52

That'snot
See a chiropodist, and then follow up with all your home stuff. You will have new feet. I guarantee it.

misscph1973 · 30/03/2017 12:03

OP, do you drink coffee? Save your used coffee grains and mix with olive oil. Scrub your feet with this (quite vigorously), and rinse off with warm water. Do not use soap. Towel dry and rub in a bit more olive oil. Do this 1-3 weekly, you will quickly see a difference. The coffee grains exfoliate while simultaneously working in the olive oil.

I have tried flexitol, filing etc, but only the above worked. My feet are soft and lovely now. I do it once a week for maintenance now. Minimal effort, minimal cost.

ChishandFips33 · 30/03/2017 13:20

Lemon helps to peel off dead skin. Half a lemon and rub in the the heels etc, wait then file - likely more effective as a maintenance thing rather than useful at the stage you are now though

DubiousCredentials · 30/03/2017 13:37

medicated lard Grin

LanaorAna1 · 30/03/2017 15:05

I always use a razor blade on post-bath feet, which is delish. Then flexitol over the tender pink skin to finish the job and to stop a new crust growing that will dry, tighten and wound the foot.

Summerisdone · 30/03/2017 15:39

Baby Foot Deep Skin Exfoliation.
Seriously I cannot recommend this stuff enough, it's available on Amazon.
Be warned that nothing will happen immediately, but within a few days all of the dead and dry skin on your feet will literally just peel away. It looks horrific when it first starts happening as your feet just shed like a snake's skin, but the results leave your feet as soft and smooth as a baby's, hence the name.
I always stock up and use it as soon as see the sunshine start to come out, so I'm prepared for sandal season the minute it's warm enough outside.

I just visited a podiatrist (or chiropodist?) for the first time today after reading this thread and my feet are lovely and smooth for the first time in years. Thank you 👍

TitaniasCloset · 05/04/2017 20:03

The nail bars near me do a £20 pedicure and use an electric buzzy thing. Also I use a little stone type thing from pound shop whenever I'm in the bath.

Podiatrists sounds promising, I have never been to one. Didnt realise they are that inexpensive.

Haffiana · 06/04/2017 08:19

Buy a pack of cotton trainer socks. Before bed wash feet and dry carefully. Put Flexitol on in a thick layer and then the socks. Next day in shower use a pumice stone or similar on the thick skin. If you are wearing shoes then put on more Flexitol after shower and another pair of socks. If you are wearing sandals then leave it until night. Repeat for 3 days and heels should be cleared up.
