Boots for wide / odd shaped feet?

Ok - I don't know if I've now gone from fed up to seriously angry - and/or embarrassed.

I have now lost count of the number of shoes shop I have visited and online 'specialist' boot manufacturers I have tried. I have now sent probably 8 pairs of boots back [paid for the post as there's no free returns, so has cost me a fortune] and I still can't replace my old tattered boots!

I have 2 pairs of ankle boots - 1 black/1 brown; 2 pairs of knee boots - 1 black/1 brown. [yawn]

The ankle boots I have been able to replace, although only by going a size up and finding extra wide boots. However, my knee boots are proving impossible to replace. The sole fell off my black ones and the heel is split across. They are literally glued together. The brown ones have lost the coverings on the heels, so look faded and frayed.

Am I destined to wear trainers for the rest of my life [mens, as I can't get womens shoes wide enough] or to go to granny shoes. [sorry to all the granny's out there, but I can't countenance wearing 'comfy shoes' to work - anyway 'comfy shoes' never seem wide enough!]

The latest pair of boots pinched the outside of my foot and seem to be trying to fold my feet in half lengthways. The other pair were supposedly the same size, but fell off at the heel and were so wide on the calf, I felt like I was swimming in them. Why assume that because I have wide feet, I must have wide legs too?

Any advice on shops/manufacturers I could try please?

At the risk of being a bit obvious, have you actually tried specialist shoe shops and websites that design with extra wide feet in mind?

yes - Hotter; Pavers; Next wide; M&S wide; Duo [now Ted & Muffy]; Debenhams.

Tonight I have come across one I like, but nothing in stock in my size. I've just visited all of those again!

This one takes the boscuit - made to measure boots, where you can specify calf width, boot height; ankle width [?] - but not how wide your feet are!

Dr Martens do some generously sized boots but their range changes quite often so you have to keep an eye on it. The Gayle ankle boots for example are fantastically comfortable on my problem feet.

Second Fly london. I have wide feet and they are mostly always comfy.

Have a look on yours clothing if the ones you've got don't suit. Plus they do free returns if you can click and collect (Asda do this for them in most places if there isn't a yours by you). Their shoes and boots come really wide.

Not sure what your budget is. If it's high, you could find a shoemaker and have a pair made to your exact measurements.

After sending boots back from simply be & next, I have 2 pairs from J D Williams which actually seem to fit!

One is an odd Doc Marten type knee boot with a wrap around calf. Other is fairly plain but looks ok. Not hugely trendy but not 'old either. After a grand total of 8 pairs of boots returned & exhausting all the shops, I am finally 90% happy. That'll do!
