Just checking out what's in at the moment and to my horror found out that it's mainly the worst of the 80s! Ruffles, shoulderpads, etc, and having lived through it the first two time, don't want to go through it again! Maybe I'm just too old and it might look great on slim 20 year olds, what do pp are think?

Red H&M have got a few different cropped wide legs.

I'm not sure catwalk stuff is ever really wearable though- I think of it as a really exaggerated idea which by the time it filters to the high street has become wearable and "every day".

I'd like to comment on which aspects can be taken forward and how they could be worn but I'm shit at stuff like that so I'll just have to see what's on asos.

I love those masculine cut stripy trousers with the stripe shirt. That's got summer nailed for me.

Yes clothes shopping at the moment is painful! I see a nice looking top, go in for a closer look - and there's big ruffles on the sleeves Hmm

I saw one of those body tops in Next - the ones that had poppers under the crotch and were uncomfortable and a nightmare to pee in - whoever thought that was a good idea to bring back?!

I reckon loads of this stuff will be in the sales in 6 months time ....

Oh god, body suits can gtfo.

Tayburt is completely right, the catwalk stuff isn't what is sold in the shops, aspects of it are taken e.g pattern, wide leg, boxy silhouettes.

I love those tie blouses I have one from COS from last year and will be wearing it this summer with gingham linen wide leg trousers.

Yup Taybert is right. Ok I will stick my neck out:

Ruffles are easy to copy so they'll be everywhere (already are) unfortunately. But with any luck, they won't last too long, unless there's a royal wedding in which case all bets are off.

I've already seen quite a few wide leg trousers back in the shops (yay!) so I'm on safe ground here. But it's quite a different silhouette so I think it's a long term trend. I certainly hope so, as do my thighs.

The 'utility' theme is my favourite but it requires clothes to be well cut and hang nicely so sadly I think that'll just get watered down into lots of khaki.

There are always zingy colours around in the summer so that's an easy win.

I think shoulder pads are a slow burner - they could catch on eventually but it could take a couple of seasons.

You can come back and laugh at me when I'm proved completely wrong. Grin

Some scarily thin legs in those images - hope they're photoshopped.

I didn't realise until I came on MN that people actually look at the pictures and try and replicate 'looks'.
I basically buy things I see and like in the shops supermarket, though I get very irritated when I can't get hold of the styles and shapes which suit me.

It's a whole new world...

Yes, people talk about clothes on Style and Beauty.

Who would have thought it?

I love the Style and Beauty pages, you can't beat indulging in new clothes and makeup imo! Grin

Are you serious Pickle? I didn't realize until now that people didn't try to replicate looks! That is what I call a whole new world!!!

Although it's not as fun this year with all the frills and shapeless garments...

Flappy Sleeves. WTAF? Do these people never do anything with their hands? No dishwashers to stack, toast to butter, sauces to stir?

picklemepopcorn · 24/03/2017 13:27

Flo, of course you do!
I just came on here wondering what there was to talk about and got educated!
I'm still not bothered myself, but have a browse every now and then to see what the rest if the world is getting excited by. I do feel slightly guilty now when I see how much effort other people are putting in- help me find shoes to go with this- kind of thing. Ho hum.

Pickle do you honestly not care about fashion at all, I'm not being rude, just intrigued as all my friends love it and we often talk about it and incorporate it into our social events. I think if clothes and makeup were taken out of my life I'd be rather depressed.

Floisme · 24/03/2017 14:11

Sorry pickle that was uncalled for.

We do sometimes get posters who affect surprise that we're not discussing Quantum Physics, hence my shooting from the hip and hitting my own foot Blush

Ignore me and welcome!

I love make up and clothes and no way would I want a life without it, but I don't enjoy talking about it beyond a light discussion or reading a few mn threads. I like shopping (online a lot), and applying make up...then I go about my day. I prefer talking about Tv shows, books or just analysing the world in general. I wouldn't enjoy fashion being incorporated into every social event it wouldn't interest me except as a one off... but that doesn't mean I don't love my make up and dresses!!! It is a huge part of me, massive! I just don't enjoy talking about it every day. I like to talk about space documentaries on Netflix and horror movies/PS4 games. This is why I have few friends. Blush

Just a different perspective Smile

Anyway I was going to say that I often find a lot of runway pictures to be completely absurd. Usually something much more diluted and commercial makes it to the high street and then these trends don't seem so bad. I think the runway ruffles are awful but I can imagine going into Topshop and seeing something with a few little ruffles that I like.

"I think if clothes and makeup were taken out of my life I'd be rather depressed"

I agree. A few years ago I went to a meditation resort in India. Everyone had to wear maroon robes/dresses. I found it v unsettling to not be able to express my personality through clothes and I hate maroon!

I like the wallpaper prints, and stripes. Also the utility stuff, and the trouser shapes. Cannot get on board with ruffles or padded shoulders.
Wish I could say I'll be doing brighter colour, but I know I'll be in black, grey and khaki, and then some more khaki...

I like to look nice, and I dress to my figure. I get excited when my colours and styles are fashionable because they are easy to get hold of. When skinnies and jeggings are in I just have to live off what is in the wardrobe until my styles return to the shops.

I never look to see what 'the world is wearing this season'. I get rid of clothes because I don't wear them or they are absolutely ditched, rather than because they are unfashionable. I don't know what to do with a fashion magazine at the dentist's. I clearly don't see what you fashion conscious people are seeing.

My DM thinks I dress outlandishly, but she is a very conservative dresser. (Nice navy slacks, so practical.)

Make up wise, bold eyeliner because I can't wear mascara and need the definition. Lipstick. That's all day to day. Foundation or BB cream for weddings!

I'm embracing my grey, and cut my own hair.

I sound eccentric, but I don't look it!

If you could possibly all affect empire line dresses, and wide legged trousers, I'll become fashionable.
Oh and bold, bold colours and quirky cuts...

Destinysdaughter · 24/03/2017 15:24

'Fashion' is just a way to pressurize us into spending money on clothes we don't actually need. I'd rather wear stuff that suits me. So no ruffles, shoulder pads or stripes for me!
