Baukjen yay or nay?

In my ongoing quest to redefine my post-baby (4 years ago...!) post-40 (just) style, I am now perusing the latest Baukjen catalogue with my morning coffee... stuff looks nice but it's not cheap even with 25% off. Worth it? I'm in the market for some slightly smarter-than-T-shirt, good-quality, grown-up, well-fitting tops. I find Boden very boxy and can be frumpy on me. How does Baukjen compare?

Did anyone have any luck with the welcome 317 code?

Thought i would give then a try but getting an error when trying to enter the code Confused

Thanks!

I really like Baukjen at the moment. Can't wear Boden either because it just looks frumpy on me.

I did try some of their jeans though and they weren't a good fit.

I'm glad it's not just me being put off by the models. I fully accept that models in catalogues are going to be slimmer and lovelier than me - that's the point, isn't it! - but Baukjen models seem to be a different race entirely. I just can't relate to them at all and cannot work out whether the clothes will work on someone with actual hips and boobs, so I gave up.

The extreme thinness of the models makes me cross every time I see the catalogue - I actually emailed the company and asked them to take my details off their mailing list because the images seemed to imply that they weren't interested in selling to women above a size 8 (even if the clothes come in larger sizes).

June - that's my experience exactly! In their last 'give us some feedback for £10 off' mailout, I said pretty much verbatim what you wrote - that I understood models were tall and slim to show off the clothes, but the Baukjen models were so tall and so slim that it put me off ordering because I simply couldn't relate my body to theirs enough to imagine myself in the clothes - and I got no response.

It's a shame, because as pps have said, some of their dresses probably do suit curves and would look great on a size 12 (plus size! Ha!) model, but

Agree about the models entirely. Boden has been equally bad recently and for me it just emphasises how dowdy some of the boden stuff will look on anyone over a size 10.

Just a note - returns are not free.

Quick update on the Ella top which has just arrived.

I've got the grey which is a nice, deep charcoal shade.

It hangs and drape nicely but I think that's more down to the batwing sleeves than the actual cut. The fabric's quite thin.

It's quite a deep V-neck, which I like but might not look so good on someone flat chested (which again makes me wonder the sense of using such thin models).

I'm a bit hmm at the moment. Even with 25% off, it feels like a lot of money for a viscose top. But it might be a slow burner and turn out to be one of those indespensable spring tops so I'm going to wait a couple of days before I decide.

I had a 25% with free delivery and returns code: STYLE224 which should be valid until 21st May provided you spend £59 or more.

I've just bought this which is lovely and will be fab for work. Really flattering (I'm 5'7" and a 12-14) although it does need decent underwear to avoid lumps and bumps. It's the first time I've ever bought from them and I was impressed by the delivery speed and the discount.

I do agree about the models though - willowy doesn't even begin to cover it!

deaddeadgood · 25/03/2017 19:43

floisme I've had my eye on that top for ages. How's the fit around the waist. I have a horrendous post baby apple shape at the moment and wondered if it would flatter.

Floisme · 25/03/2017 21:54

dead I've just tried it on again. I'm happy with the waist - there's quite a bit of excess fabric but it drapes nicely and is quite forgiving and flattering. What I'm less keen on are the batwing sleeves - don't hate them but I'm not a huge fan, and also the fabric which is thinner than I expected and has that slightly slippery viscose feel.

I'm still not sure. I don't love it but I don't believe this thing about having to love all your clothes. There are some that just do a job but do it well and also some that I only come to love over time. This might just be one of them or then again, I might feel a bit annoyed every time I put it on because it's not quite right!

I bought a ruched fitted jersey dress a couple of years ago, and it was so super-clingy I was horribly self-conscious every time I wore it, and had to keep adjusting it. I sold it on eBay pretty quickly.

It's decent quality, though.
