Comfy, supportive but cool trainers for plantar fasciitis? Recommendations please!

I want the cool trainers of my youth - adidas gazelles or maybe some gola or puma ones? But I am also a grown up and know I need them to work with my dodgy feet. I get plantar fasciitis if my shoes aren't supportive enough.

Can anyone recommend some cool (or as cool as you get at 35) trainers please! :)

Converse are too flat, and with my short legs start to verge into clown shoe territory as they're so narrow. Blush

Watching!
Have you tried insoles? I wear orthaheel ones and it now means my options for shoes have widened Smile

Have had to size up on some brands though

Mominatrix · 08/03/2017 21:12

Adidas NMDs are like wearing supportive socks outside - look cool too.

Squirrelfruitandnutkin · 08/03/2017 21:13

I've not tired any - did you get them properly fitted or just off the shelf?

Skechers memory foam trainers

Squirrelfruitandnutkin · 08/03/2017 21:15

those adidas NMDs are not my cup of tea. Brew

Nike Internationalist?

ChishandFips33 · 09/03/2017 04:41

Just off the shelf - tried them all and these gave more or less instant relief

DH is suffering with PF atm and he's finding it trickier to get something to provide relief (he will not do his exercises though!) so I think I was very lucky

NoMudNoLotus · 09/03/2017 04:46

Asics are the best by far for PF Smile

NewIdeasToday · 09/03/2017 05:05

Another vote for Skechers. Really comfortable, light and supportive.

sparlesandedges · 09/03/2017 05:09

Fellow Ex sufferer here.
Flit flops were what finally gave me the most relief and a sports insole for PF from Amazon in trainers and wellies.
The exercises really help too.

addle · 09/03/2017 06:20

Sparles and Chish - what are the exercises? I didn't realise for ages that pains I was getting were probably PF. I've now got insoles for my main boots which make a huge difference even though they are just ordinary Boots one. So I'd love to hear about exercises. thanks

sparlesandedges · 09/03/2017 07:52

A physio told me to roll a can of coke under my foot but the one that made the most difference was calf stretching.

Lie on the bed with a scarf round your foot, straighten you leg and pull your toes towards you with the scarf. Does that make sense? I did it twice a day for 5 minutes.

The other one is to drop your heel over the step when you go up stairs.

And ugly Flit flops really help.

Sketchers

leedy · 09/03/2017 08:43

Fit Flops didn't really work for me at all, but Nike Air Max weren't bad. When it was at its worst, though, all I could wear was Birkenstocks (fortunately they've kind of upped their game in terms of actual shoes...). Also Adidas Gazelles actually have pretty decent arch support, though it depends on where you need most support for your PF - for me an arch support was much more important when I was suffering than heel cushioning.

Also, yes, all the calf stretches. I eventually ended up getting a cortisone shot into the tendon, which (slowly) made it clear up completely, but I'm still veeeery careful about shoes.

PNGirl · 09/03/2017 09:24

Nike Tanjuns (available in Sports Direct), New Balance 996, and Adidas Superstars all work for my PF.

helenfagain · 09/03/2017 09:26

ASICS every time.

I bought these in black last summer and everyone comments on them.

Squirrelfruitandnutkin · 09/03/2017 13:12

Yes I need to do more exercises - I keep getting lazy and then seize up. Blush

I'm not a fan of sketchers or fit flops.

I love my Birkenstocks in the summer and they're great for my feet, but we have a couple of months before it's warm or dry enough.

Good to hear the gazelles have good arch support. That definitely makes a difference for me. :)

Birkenstocks made my PF much worse!

leedy · 09/03/2017 13:23

" but we have a couple of months before it's warm or dry enough. "

They now do actual shoes! And boots! YEAR ROUND BIRKENSTOCKING!

addle · 09/03/2017 13:28

Sharls, thks v much fr exercises.

leedy · 09/03/2017 13:29

I also wear Brooks Ravennas for running, but they are the exact opposite of cool. Really supportive and comfy, though.

BretonRose · 09/03/2017 14:04

Norman Walsh trainers

leedy · 09/03/2017 17:01

Ooh, those are lovely BretonRose. How are they in terms of arch support?

does not actually need any more shoes
