Interview Jigsaw dress styling tips needed

I have an interview with the civil service and have bought this dress: www.jigsaw-online.com/product/spiro-print-silk-dress/J32647_PI081

It was a bit pricey but I've put a lot of weight on with my current meds(size 16, I think pear shaped) and tbh it's been the only formal thing that's fitted perfectly and made me feel really good. Plus I'll wear it plenty after the interview.

How would you recommend styling it for the interview? I'm thinking a fitted navy jacket and simple navy flat shoes and a vintage tan bag I already have? This might work better than black? I currently have a knee injury so no heels I'm afraid...

Also if anyone can see a way to make opaques look good that'd be great as I have a smallish tattoo on one leg that I'd like to cover for the interview. If not I could just wear a longer knee bandage as I'll have one on anyway.

Thanks!!

Ex civil servant here - this dress is lovely and fine for an interview with CS. I worked in Whitehall and would have worn this dress quite happily for work. Good luck!

Well, Dr, if what you say is true about 'character coming out of your mouth if you are anyone at all', then surely what she wears is irrelevant to a point and what she is most comfortable in and feels she will shine in is the best option? That's pretty much what most people have been saying on this thread.

You are being really harsh in tone tbh. I know it's bad form to mention other threads but I've seen some of your posts on here and they sound like some of the really nasty, bullying teenagers I went to school with would have said.

Im sorry but you cannot wear that to a civil service job interview??? Its short and designed. Nice dress but thought you'd make more of an effort for a job interview, They dont like Casual which is why they test you so hard.

Rockaby · 01/03/2017 11:50

That dress isn't casual.

The Girl the dress is fine for a Civil Service interview. It's smart and looks good. Lots of women in the CS would wear that sort of outfit for work (i.e. briefing ministers, attending debates etc).

From some of the comments I was beginning to think this was some revealing clubbing dress! Nor is it casual. It is Jigsaw! It is unusual but very suitable for an interview unless you want to be a man clone! (The design is taken from a Spirograph design set which I used to have as a toy about 50 years ago!)

Wear a navy jacket with it. With the flared skirt, a shorter jacket is best or a cashmere short cardi. Trying to match another colour is difficult. I think matching the pink or light blue (or is it silver grey) may make it more wedding guest. Navy heels and bag or grey perhaps? Just avoid black. It is important to feel your best and wear what suits you not something that makes you identical to everyone else.

Thanks so much for your input everyone!

Drscholl, I know that the main aim of the interview is to come across well verbally
However, I think everyone here is aware that it's also important to make an effort with your outfit hence their useful advice.

Thegirl it comes to just above the knee which is normal in the CS.

I loved the spirograph design!

I tried the dress on with some semi- opaque navy and grey tights, colours which I have never worn before and both actually look pretty good! So that's the tattoo taken care of. I found a navy jacket and shoes which make it look a lot more formal and smart so just a bag to find now...
