I've found about 15 hairs I assume I should start to dye my hair now? I've never ever used hair dye before, which at-home kits are good? I have sensitive skin too so always stayed clear of dying hair as never been sure what to use. Any advice appreciated ladies!! Xxx

Whats balyage?!

heateallthebuns · 28/02/2017 19:06

Hmm well I might have spelled it wrong but it's brown at the roots and blonde at the ends, blended in between.

Balayage

Do whatever you want to. I dyed my hair throughout my teens and twenties - I had every style and colour. I'm nearly 40 now and stopped dying my hair when I had kids as I didn't have time or money for the upkeep of it. I had a few grey hairs in my twenties but have lots now and my hair is generally more ashy in colour and not as shiny or thick. I went through a phase of hating it but I started getting a cool silver streak at the front so I decided to embrace it. Instead of dying it I have worked out what clothing and make up colours suit me best and I think I look better than I've done in ages. So I say don't fear the grey!

Just call them natural highlights. 15 grey hairs is hardly badger's bum territory.

I am 50 and have long wavy hair, about 40% white, the rest mousy blonde.

Like a PP, I have not dyed it, but rather changed up my clothing and accessories to match it.

I went grey early and have been dying my brown hair ever since. I don't have the complexion to go blonde, so every few weeks I have to touch up the roots - particularly around my parting. I usually get it coloured and cut at the same time once every 6 -8 weeks, but have to do a couple of home dyes in between. Having tested them all, I go for a permanent colour and recommend L'Oréal or Clairol. You will need to do a skin test though first to make sure you aren't allergic. It's difficult to get an exact match, which is why I like it done properly by my hairdresser. But I can't afford to go there every 2 weeks to get the roots done, which is why I'll do it myself in between. I personally find that to avoid a reddish tint at the roots, it's better to go for an ash colour. Also I have to leave it on slightly longer than recommended to cover the greys properly. I'm not sure why people here are so surprised that you would want to cover greys! I work in a pretty competitive environment in sales, where appearances and age do matter. I would not want to be judged by my greys! But as you only have a few... another alternative is a root spray. There are a number on the market which cover and wash out, and mean I can usually go longer in between colours if I apply them on the pesky greys. Also I find grey doesn't show up so much on clean hair!
