Apologies if there is one already
Anyone stopped using traditional skincare products and converted to oils or just use oils occasionally, please share what works for you .. I'd love to hear about it !
I've used a cleanse, tone and moisturise routine for years before realising that it wasn't the products that weren't right for me but the concept of stripping my skin off natural oils and then replacing them with lotions . Have used Clinique, avenue, Liz Earle , Kiehls as well as cheaper stuff like Nivea and L'Oréal before accidentally stumbling on the incredible difference that oils make to my skin . I Had run out of makeup remover and heard about oil being cleansing so I slathered coconut oil on my face and rinsed off with a hot cloth to find that my skin was completely soft and clean, my usually very dry and very sensitive red/blotchy skin didn't need moisturising and it glowed in the morning . Since then , I've discovered lots of other oils that work amazingly well and I find that after years of relying on foundation daily to make my skin look ok - I'm confident enough to go without and feel my bare skin actually looks better without any product !!
My favourites are

  • prickly pear seed oil as a facial serum
  • Argan oil to tame, smoothen and defrost wavy hair
Similarly , I've found that I don't need to straighten my hair all the time and washing with a solid black seed oil bar and then applying a few drops of argan oil along with combing with my fingers and not a brush keeps my hair really soft and frizz is so much better ! Has anyone else got any beauty secrets they can credit to oil ? Would love to hear them !

I use almond oil but might give coconut a try. I did read that it can make you blotchy though.

Are oils good for combination or oily skin? I use an oil as part of my night time routine but I'm a bit scared of only using oil on my skin as I have an oily T-zone.

I want to love oils, but find that coconut oil breaks me out in spots Sad
Prickly pear oil sounds good, is it flower oil or seed oil?

I love rosehip oil, I usually use Trilogy but have also made it myself when I lived at my old house. Coconut oil is also a go to item here. Plantain oil and dandelion oil both homemade are also useful. Plantain for rashes and bites etc dandelion oil for aches and pains and is good for my restless legs.

I use the organic cold pressed coconut oil from Sainsburys. Under a fiver. Fantastic stuff.

This is the stuff

Can anyone recommend a good Argon oil? I see so many brands but always wary of it just being a less concentrated oil, with only some argon content.

wilko do argan oil for £2.50 for 30 ml, but I've not tried it. I'm currently trying to use up the oils I don't like so not buying new stuff until that's gone. I have noticed that my feet in particular are much less crusty.

Lemond1fficult · 01/03/2017 22:59

That seems very reasonable. Almost suspiciously reasonable.

Worth a go, though.

I cleanse with coconut oil and moisturize with rose hip oil. Have sometimes used olive oil too.
Coconut oil under £3 from Aldi and rose hip oil from amazon.
Much cheaper and my sensitive blotchy skin has never been better.

Cheap "argan oil" from the shops usually contains loads of other things, if you're going to buy it make sure it's pure "cosmetic" grade and not "roasted" as that one's for eating (lovely tasted like sesame). I've got a few litres of cosmetic grade which we bought from a lady in Morocco last summer, even had a go at grinding the nuts myself to extract the oil. Use it on my skin and hair, love the stuff.

I always buy my oils from Naissance on Amazon and ebay. Cold pressed and organic, but a tenth of the fancy/schmancy boxed and advertised stuff.

Cao- it wasn't my friend who said that about Rosehip Grin it was Caroline Hirons!

I am off to try some prickly pear now.
