Coming home outfit

My little baby is due May 31st.
I was after some advice on a coming home from hospital outfit. (I'm very new at this--as this is my first!)

We have decided to wait to find out the sex of the baby, so our plan is to have a little pink girl outfit & a little blue boy outfit both ready. (See attached pics)

But my worry is that as it'll be summer, baby will be too hot(?) as I think the sleepsuits are fleecy..
What does everyone think?

ThanksGrin

I have just re-read the description for these and it says they are cotton, maybe they just looked a bit fleecy in the photo

That's a good idea I may get a couple of outfits just in case. Obviously it might not all work out as he/she might make them dirty or they might not fit etc, but I just thought it was a lovely ideaGrin

The weather is very changeable in May so I would take a little blanket as well as the usual babygros and vests. Also, take a little hat.

BillyButtfuck · 20/02/2017 13:35

Aww, you're welcome! Don't let them rain on your baby parade, it's a really exciting time and not everything suits everybody or wouldn't be their thing but if this will make you happy then do it.

mummy I'm due in the next 4 weeks, and have bought a boy and girl outfit too for coming home. We've had the outfits for months as my dh and I were so excited to be finally having a child (ivf pregnancy ). I'm not sure that I'll care what they are wearing when the time comes, but it's been lovely planning while waiting. Everything else we have is gender neutral, but like you I thought this might feel quite special.

Also the photographers from bounty will be round so I was glad when I had a cute outfit and blanket for dd to lie on.
Will be doing the same this time.

Congratulations OP. All of mine had 'coming home' outfits.
It's a little tradition I have with my friends. I didn't find out the sex with any either. I had a couple of neutral suits but my mum had secretly bought one of each in different colours and washed them in fairy then stashed them Grin to bring in at visiting.
You're best going with 'new baby' size - unless your last appointments tell you to expect a little 11lb chunk. 0-3 will look like dress up outfits on a 7lber.
Oh I love all this

That's exactly what I thought! Most things we have are gender neutral but I thought the pink/blue outfit for coming home would be extra special :)

FeralBeryl.
Aww how lovely that must have been amazing for you :) I'm not going to rush into buying anything until I'm a bit closer my due date and we've seen what the midwife says lol :)

Plus the fact that all mine have resembled baby monkeys at birth Grin I found it helpful for the WRVS ladies going round the wards to be able to pretend my child was either a 'pretty' girl or a 'handsome' boy.
Once they were home we were pretty much gender neutral cream or white for the first weeks at least (hides the sick better)
I do think it's really special going home, be prepared that if whoever is driving goes above 8mph you will get the rage!

Forgot to say- size wise we've plumped for up to 10lb. I've gestational diabetes though, so not expecting a petite baby. Dh can always run out to mothercare or tesco to get something smaller if necessary.

I think it's a nice idea. I changed DD into a nicer babygrow to bring her home. It was unisex but if you want to do pink or blue then go for it. I agree with someone about washing them before wear which will make them non refundable though so as long as you don't mind this? Also I don't really agree with all the comments that they don't need bibs until teething! DD used a bib for every feed (breastfed) as she had a habit of bringing some back up every time so the bib was useful to catch it and save changing her whole outfit each time.

Congratulations and good luck with it all Smile

My DD2 is also due at the end of May. I'm just packing lots of cotton sleepsuits - no fleece as hospitals too hot at best of times! I'm also packing a few cotton hats and a hand knitted cardigan. That should be plenty.
With my first we were waiting to be discharged for ages and had lots of clothing changes due to DD1 being sick then a really explosive nappy. By the time we were ready to leave, she was wearing whatever I had left in my bag and I couldn't have changed her anyway as she was fast asleep!
My experience is that it's lovely to plan a nice new outfit for baby's trip home but in theory a lot can happen in hospital before you're actually ready to leave so my best advice is pack plenty of cotton sleepsuits to cover all eventualities - but I'd avoid fleece.

Whatasmashingpumpkin · 20/02/2017 14:15

Oh and I had GD with DD1, was told to expect a big baby following growth scans and midwife checks. She was 6lb 3Oz and absolutely tiny so everything was huge on her! Again, expect the unexpected!

Whathaveilost · 20/02/2017 14:16

When I saw your heading I guessed it was baby related but I thought you was going to ask advice about what you could wear!

I had ready my tale about planning my hospital leave with DS1 I was going to look quite glamous in my lovely French Connection summer dress I had ready to wear. After all, if all these celebrities I had seen look ready for the red carpet as they are about to leave the hospital with their new born why couldn't I?
The truth was the dress just about fitted over my head, I couldnt stand anything near my boobs and my walk was a little shuffle. On the day I was ready to leave I didn't want to take off my dressing gown but eventually left in the maternity dress I arrived in!

In recent years May has been unpredictable weather wise. It may be warm, wet, sunny, in the middle of a heat wave, who knows.

I would leave it to nearer the time to decide.

I remember reading something similar from one of the fashion bloggers (WIT?) who had planned a lovely dress to go home in and had to send her husband out to buy her leggings! I've remembered that and will be going with leggings and my husband's hoody to travel home.
