Maternitywear Supermarket Sweep in H&M - what to buy?

MrsBadger · 01/03/2007 12:13

I'm going up to London for a meeting tomorrow, and this will likely be my first, last and only chance to get at an H&M (or indeed any shop) that has mat wear.

Any tips on what's good there at the moment, and/or any suggestions for summer mat wear essentials that I can be fairly sure I'll wear (no chance of returning anything)?

Any help gratefully received, also any tips of anywhere else in the Kensington / Chelsea area that does reasonably priced stuff.

(And yes I will be going to the LK Bennett sale shop on the King's Road to look at handbags )

Bambi, That's exactly the pair of trousers I mean!!! They are yhe most comfy and versatile mat trousers in the world, aren't they?

tassis · 02/03/2007 18:00

BCM, thanks, but i'm not preg! tried on trendy tops in topshop and looked it!

tassis · 02/03/2007 18:01

ebay?

Belgianchocolatesmama · 02/03/2007 18:03

Know what type of tops you mean cassis. I've got one or 2 in that style and my mum asked me why I was still wearing my mat clotes or did I have something to tell her? Needless to say I stopped wearing these tops out of the house now!

treacletart, yes i got their tie-back empire line dress recently and like it a lot

mrsbee, i have a right old mix of stuff - from cheapy h&m bits (this time i bought a black and tan floral dress and a pretty red and white print smock top) and top shop regular smock t-shirts, through to really quite expensive pieces from formes and push maternity (but they're in islington)

ds was born in may so i managed without summer stuff last time, but this time am due at the end of july, and am going on holiday in april. am about to order a few things from next, but it's fair to say that most shops haven't really stocked up on summer pieces yet. may be worth a second trip in a month or two's time...?

MrsBadger · 02/03/2007 21:17

right, reporting back:

utter lack of any dresses at all
ditto vests with bra-hiding straps
also far too much clingy jersey stuff (no good for hot hot weather)

however I did achieve:

stone linen trousers
fabulous tan and white striped blouse
brown jersey wrap-effect bf top which is great - may have to source some more
red and white print smock top (guessing same one as yours, Tutter) which DH thinks is hilariously ghastly but I can see myself living in when it's 90 degrees

all at really quite reasonable prices, especially considering I popped into Crave on the King's Road in the morning and nearly fainted at the price of the cute sundress they had in the window...

Thanks for all your help, people!

that's not bad for a summer shopping trip at the beginning of march mrsbee. def worth a trip back later into sprin imho

is this paula radcliffe modelling for crave btw? (love this tunic top)

LowFatMilkshake · 03/03/2007 08:14

MrsB - admire the fact you did;nt get sucked into the baby dept. to buy some clothes for bump!! I did that all the time still do. I could be out buying a new dinnerservice and will still come home with abay/childrens clothes! Much more exciting and you get loads for your money!

MrsBadger · 03/03/2007 09:07

I am a superstitious old biddy, Milkshake - won't buy anything for the Cub just yet.

Besides, we have dibs on three kids' worth of stuff in an attic in Clapham so shouldn't need to do too much actual shopping...

if you have linen trousers, you are fine! there are so many tunic type things out at the moment that you can just bung one of those over the top (lived in my linens last summer when pg)...

have you got a bump band? i hardly used mine, but friends swear by them!
