What foundation do you wear?

I'm currently using Estée Lauder's liquid double wear and have been really happy with it, great coverage and really long lasting but my skin has been quite dry recently not sure if it's the heavy formula? And in contrast to my quest for great coverage I think I might want something a bit dewier for spring.

What do you use and would you recommend? I'm going to John Lewis's tomorrow so would appreciate the advice before I fall for the first sales pitch I hear!

Laura mercier silk Creme photo foundation. I swear by it.
Double wear makes my skin really itchy and red and like its about to break out.

I have been using Mac studio fluid for a few years and have stuck with it, prior to that I used Benefit Oxygen Wow but was never happy with the coverage. I did try Bare minerals last summer as my SIL swears by it and bought me a bottle for a present but I just looked like I wasn't wearing any make up unless I had the wrong shade!

allfurcoatnoknickers · 17/02/2017 15:14

Becca Aqualuminous. Make you look all glowy even when I'm crabby and sleep deprived.

PatMullins · 17/02/2017 15:16

Gosh Foundation Drops
It's the best foundation I've ever had.

BusterGonad · 17/02/2017 17:35

I like Diorskin Star for a bit more cover or Clinique CC for lighter wear. Both are great and seem to not give me dry patches and flaky skin.

No7 Lift & Luminate. Feels soothing on my skin. I was colour matches and the shade I now wear means I don't have to "warm myself up" with additional products. It's foundation, then blush and lippie. That's it.

I WAS a big Estée Lauder Double Wear Light advocate but got tired of looking orange after an hour or so.

Thanks everyone - didn't manage to make it to JL today someone decided a 2 hour lunch meeting would be a good idea instead 🙄 At least I can have a more leisurely browse tomorrow!

I've been using Double Wear for about a month and I'm really pleased with it. I might try the light version for summer though.

thatone · 17/02/2017 19:22

I've been using DoubleWear Light but use primer first (from Wilko) - makes a big difference.

kissmelittleass · 19/02/2017 10:59

Do you all use primer? I just bought some primer yesterday to try it out. does it actually make a difference?

WicksEnd · 19/02/2017 17:41

I tend to find double wear is ok at first then the longer it's been open, the more it dries your face out. Mine feels really heavy by the end of the day and I can't wait to take it off.
I'll have a look at some of the recommendations above.

Eliza22 · 19/02/2017 19:18

Wicksend, try Chanel Teint Ultra Tenue. £37. I went to buy my No7 yesterday and it wasn't in stock. So, I had a 20 minute mooch around the counters and got a sample of Chanel. Not sure I'd spend that much personally but my word....Flawless. I've loads of points on my Boots card so....might...just.

Eliza22 · 19/02/2017 19:38

Posting the Chanel...

And the No7.... which ones best? Have to say, Chanel still looks good 9 hrs later

Eliza it's impossible to tell which is best as the lighting is different and not to sound rude but your facial expression on the Chanel one is so much more relaxed and you look really lovely, the No7 photo looks like you've rushed it and weren't quite ready.

Eliza22 · 19/02/2017 20:07

Good point. It's a nuisance. When I was young, I'd slap whatever was nearest on and didn't give it that much thought. Now, I find myself feeling so tired/stressed....I need all the help I can get. OP, I'd say, depending on you're needs, go for the lightest option for comfort, in Spring 😊

LiefieLiefie · 19/02/2017 20:07

I think you've already convinced yourself, Eliza.

Branleuse · 19/02/2017 20:15

i use no7 lift and luminate

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 19/02/2017 23:33

I'm not a fan of double wear. I like a more natural finish.

I'm alternating between Mac face and body, Smashbox 15 hour one, and Urban Decay naked skin.

I like them all I just have a bad make up buying habit Blush. I have rosacea so like to be able to layer a bit which I can with these - for some reason concealer just looks very obvious if I try and use it to conceal cheeks so I prefer foundation.

Botanicbaby · 19/02/2017 23:54

OP I used to wear double wear years ago. Then I changed to double wear light, bobbi brown, mac and a few others in between.

Now I only wear bare minerals bareskin brightening serum foundation. A good friend used to wear the powder one and only need a minimal touch, I was dubious at first about how little was needed. But then realised I only need a drop or two using their round brush, it lasts forever and I'd recommend it but appreciate its not for everyone. It takes a bit of getting used to esp if you are used to applying a liquid.

It gives great coverage without feeling too heavy on my forty-something tendency to dryness skin. I am a total convert.

But....I've thought about sampling diorskin airflash or clinique better than foundations.

MotherofA · 20/02/2017 00:15

Mac studio fix slightly lighter coverage than double wear but love it Smile

needmoregin · 20/02/2017 13:31

I have just discovered EX1 and I've chucked out my double wear and skin illusion .. Added bonus it's only £12.50 !

LuciaInFurs · 20/02/2017 18:21

Lancome's Teinte Miracle. It's hard finding foundation for black skin but thankfully this foundation's really good.

tobee · 20/02/2017 21:52

Do the numbers (e.g. 2:1) correspond across the brands shade wise or is that dangerous thinking?

MotherofA · 21/02/2017 15:22

I think they do from what I have heard but can't be sure Smile
