Need advice on what to wear for a wedding.

Me and DH are going to a wedding in early May, its in the afternoon at a country hotel with wedding breakfast afterwards. I haven't been to many weddings, but the ones I have been to I always seem to feel slightly uncomfortable in what I wear (whether it be too over or underdressed). I've seen a nice pink suit in Next but would prefer to go for something from somewhere a little less obvious (half the guests could be wearing it). I would also quite fancy wearing a dress. Can anyone give me any ideas. I'm 5'2 and size 10.

Thats a good idea, i'll perhaps give them a ring and see whether they've got a catalogue or website cos I can't find one on google. I've just been looking at a dress at debenhams, here which I quite like, what does anyone else think. Its that sort of style that I like

Ok, i've be looking a pashmina websites and there are different types, I don't think i'd be wanting a normal scarf, so would I be wanting a shawl or stole or large scarf?

I'd second the NoaNoa recommendation. There's one in Islington so I guess they have shops all over. Nice stuff.
I've got a wedding mid June and am keeping my eye on these threads for recommendations!
Haven't been to a wedding in years, only 2 in about the past 10 years and I was bridemaid at both.

Just found noanoa website. Will try to link it for you.here

babyblue2 · 28/02/2007 21:37

Well i've ordered the dress and got a 20% discount code and free delivery so i'll see how that fits but i'll ring NoaNao tomorrow. I've never heard of them and we're right up North so its highly unlikely that we have any shops up here but I shall see what they can help me with. Thanks very much.

I checked with noa-noa and they don't sell over the internet and i'm miles from any shop which is annoying. The dress at Debenhams didn't look right, so i've settled on this which looks really good on me, better than in the picture (DH's words).

Try Kew, boden, coast or toast for dresses that can be dressed up or down.

i like this for somethign that can be dressed up or down
this

passion flower print silk dress

but coast are my favourite for more formal affairs
www.coast-stores.co.uk/site.htm

I have a great red and white spotted silk dress that I wore to the races and also a fantastic fitted black and cream shift that goes well from day to evening weddings.

A hat is a great way to make any dress/outfit seem more formal.

I went to a wedding on Saturday at a country house. Not many hats but lots of fascinators (sp). Look realy good and can wear them all day. Just one suggestion though - make sure that you use hair grips to keep it in as mine really annoyed me because I couldn't find the darn things that i had bought!!!

MrsBadger · 06/03/2007 18:22

I saw the Passionflower dress in the Kew in Kensington on Fri - it looks even nicer in real life. Very subtle colours.

dingdongjustforyoufg · 06/03/2007 20:07

I have similar problem - my brother's wedding on Easter Monday in Ireland, am liking this with these but wonder if too red/bright/short/informal?

dingdongjustforyoufg · 06/03/2007 20:08

btw sorry for hijack babyblue2

MrsBadger · 07/03/2007 08:29

Dress is fabulous dingdong, not at all too short and I love the cardigan they suggest with it too. Sure it'll be formal enough unless it's actually in a cathedral.
Might think about a more subtle coloured shoe though - my feet are not my most attractive attribute and drawing attention to them is not high on my list of priorities. Much rather have people looking at my face / waist / cleavage...

dingdongjustforyoufg · 07/03/2007 20:49

Thanks Mrs Badger I have ordered the dress, 2 pairs of shoes and will report back...
