I’m a pear-shape and have a frustrating time finding clothes that fit me properly. If I can manage to get jeans over my thighs, they end up gaping hugely around the waist. Dresses are too loose around the boobs and I have to wear spaghetti vests under nearly all my tops because the neckline and armpit gaps are so low. Anyone else have these problems?

I went looking for a good UK fashion blog that’s aimed at pear-shapes and couldn’t find many, just the odd US-based one. So I’m starting my own. It seems a little crazy for a woman who buys her jeans from ASDA to blog about fashion, but I like experimenting with my look and I’m fed up with fashion advice that says “wear A-Line skirts” like that will solve all my problems.

My main gripes with current advice are around the focus on “minimising problem areas” as if my beautiful derriere is a high crime zone, the A-line obsession, and anything that suggests I wear heels every day. (Nope. Not gonna happen.)

So my fellow bottom-heavy beauties, tell me what frustrates you about fashion and fashion advice?

Mines always left too! It's a conspiracy!

Gok Wans book, how to look good naked has really helped me choose the right shapes and styles for my body shape, it's just a shame you can't find appropriately sized clothes in the shops.

Hey, fellow pears! I don't know if anyone has suggested it already, but Evans do trousers designed for pear shapes - the most comfy jeans ever! They fit perfectly around my thighs and come higher up your waist. For years finding jeans/trousers was a nightmare! Think they start at a size 14. Also, Asos Curve is great for clothes for pear shapes, I find.

Oh, and I'm size 16 on top, 18 - 20 on bottom. Big boobs, big bum, big thighs and wide calves! 😂

My stats are 36 29 44. The last figure makes me want to weep 😭

I'm 5,3" and my legs are 29". Great. My widest part is the top of my thighs.

😔

I mostly wear 10 on top and get away with 12 on the bottom as long as it's the right cut.

Actually from a brief look up thread, I seem to have the widest hip-waist-boob ratio of you all.

Have to say, I love having good arms and a reasonably flat belly. It's easier to cover legs than arms.

Hourglass with saddlebags here. So, same issues as a pear I think? Jeans a nightmare and I never think I look right in jeans. Work clothes, not V bad, dressy occasions, not bad, casual weekend stuff oh dear god.

Cannot wait for the loose oversized top fashion to go out of fashion.

I've found my people😊 Pear here too... Size 12 on top but 14 on a good day for jeans. Usually wear gap curvy jeans but I'm wondering if I could get away with skinny jeans with 23" thighs- I've never owned a pair. I usually live in leggings and dresses- even i the summer I tend to wear short leggings under dresses. Hating the trend of box pleats on dresses that's in now - I definitely do not need my bum 'enhanced' anymore...

Miss wimpy we have the very similar measurements. I'm 32-29-43. I find it so difficult to dress well. Everything ends up looking frumpy. I'm endlessly trying to slim down my tree trunk legs but I can't take any exercise. I do like having a slim torso at least

Im a pear shaped hour glass - my shoulders seem to balance out my hips but I have teeny boobs so look more pear shaped.

I find it really difficult to find clothes that suit/fit me. I am also short waisted (so high waisted stuff sits just under my boobs) and have weird violin hips (so tight Nigella type stuff doesn't look good either)

Im trying to find some relaxed skinny/boyf/mom jeans but everything that fits on the hips/butt gapes at the back.
My bum is pretty sticky outty so longline tops look rubbish and skater style dresses end up being really short at the back.

I think I might need to change my 'look' and go down the baggy Cos route and at least feel comfortable!

Hi 👋🏻 from another bottom heavy one

How is it so hard to dress these thighs??

I'm tall too so nothing sits at the right height for my waist, I've given up and resorted to wearing sacks. I feel so matronly at the minute.

What are your pear wardrobe essentials?

I need to smarten up my work clothes and I'm honestly just lost

I'm a pear, with added muffin top since two c-sections. Just got some fab jeans from a charity shop, with the brand name Voodoo Dolls, so I've googled and there are some bargains to be had, but only in the smaller sizes:

store.voodoodolls.co.uk/voodoo-dolls-open-hem-ribbed-waist-jeans-womens-647010?colcode=64701091

They have a ribbed elastic waist, which sounds awful, but if you dare take a look after that description, you'll see they look pretty good. And it solves the gaping at the waist thing brilliantly. The ones I got are marked size 14, and I'd say in most clothes I'm a 12 on the waist. Point being, you can get the 14 for the thighs, without the gape due to the stretchy waistband.

I'm a pear too. I've always had wide hips but they have got wider since having my DS. I can't find any coats that fit! They fit fine at the top but I can't zip them up. Does anyone else have this problem?

I'm 10/12 on top and 12/14 on the bottom, I've learned to love my curvy shape, and somehow my cup size going up to D from B before children has evened me out a bit. I have v narrow shoulders which makes dresses without stretch a nightmare. I live in skater dresses and leggings pretty much all year round which is starting to get boring. I dress like a classic introvert, don't want to draw attention to myself but don't want to look horrid either! Some new ideas would be welcome.

Hourglass here (DD boobs, 14/16 on bum and thighs, 10/12 on waist). Used to work in an office and wear dresses every day, which was perfect, but now much more casual and really struggle with trousers/jeans. I have been known to cry in a dressing room after seemingly trying every pair of jeans in our town on! GAP curvy were the answer but they have mostly discontinued them in the U.K. Went to the States a few weeks ago and knew I would get jeans there - bingo! Stocked up on GAP curvys and a friend of BF has agreed I can order them online in future and have them sent to his US address as they won't ship here.

Bestie and I had a bit of a dance in the shop when I came out of the fitting room to show her my non-gaping waistband and then I was so delighted I shut my finger in the door and ruined my nails (first time they've been done in about 10 years). Staff must have thought we were off our tits!

Also, dungarees - FatFace do vanity sizing so I proudly buy a size 12 in there and gaze lovingly at the tag!

Forgot to say, if you are at all familiar with a needle/thread or have a sewing machine, I have resorted to buying cheap jeggings to fit thighs and then pinching in the waist and sewing a triangle dart into them to taper it in. Not the neatest solution but I tend to wear tops which cover the waistband.

Just to mention Asda jeans, I've found their Wonderfit jeans to be quite good.

But I'm tall though and do actually wish they were a bit longer; but as a lifelong pear I'm just grateful to be able to get them on tbh and they look ok.

I do wish someone somewhere would address this shape specifically in clothes. I'm sure there's a market for it. I've struggled my whole life.

And..when I say address this shape, it would be nice if it was done in a positive way too. I'm so fed up with feeling like I have a problem that needs hiding or resolving. No one can help their shape!

I am a short pear shape - small shoulders, small waist, massive thighs (I don't know if I might be an hour glass with saddle bags as I do have reasonable boobage). Being short and pear-shaped is a nightmare, as clothing retailers think short = slim all over. And trend for shapeless stuff is a nightmare - tops hang off my boobs and make me look like a chunky rectangle. Nice. Hmm

I have resorted to slobbing around in leggings/jeggings and massive shapeless jumpers but it is not good.

Not. Good.

Hey all! It has been so encouraging to get all your comments, and now I can say that I HAVE A WEBSITE!!! //www.pearflair.com . Yay! And there's a corresponding facebook page, which I hope you will "like" Wink

Obviously it's super new so there's not a lot there, but as always tell me what you want to know (and what you're sick to death of!) and I'll work it in. I'm determined to be useful with this! Grin

I'm currently working on posts about thigh-friendly jeans, high-heel friendly foot support and what to look for in smart trousers.

There is a brand called Duo that do boots for different calf measurements. I've not tried them but a friend had a pair and they looked good quality.

Can I join as well?

My bugbears are:
Pencil skirts are cut mainly for apple shaped women
Far too many low cut tops - I have no boobs and can't wear low cut tops at all
Far too many jean are too low rise for me. I must be long waisted ot high waisted as mid rise are low rise on me and high rise still stop below my belly button

I love shift dresses, but to get one that fits over my hips I have to buy one that flaps emptily over my top half (sob)

Lonicera, I bought a shift dress in Phase Eight a few months ago that fitted me perfectly. The fabric is a sort of jersey that skims my pear shaped bod, and there's gathering at the waist which is very flattering. I'll try that brand again if I need something for a special occasion.

Another good buy has been a mock-suede tan biker jacket from River Island. Gives my top half some substance and, with dark jeans or trousers, evens out my silhouette a bit.

A bit late to the party, but I've just stumbled across this thread! All you gorgeous ladies out there just want to feel gorgeous in clothes that fit, right? Me too! I'm pear-shaped (size 12 bust/waist, size 14 hip) and I got so fed up with never finding clothes to fit (jeans were my absolute nightmare, trousers not much better, same with skirts and dresses!) this year I have started to develop a clothing line for ladies just like us! I don't want to spam, so won't make a big deal out of this, just wanted you ladies to know I'm doing something about this problem! Grin
