My nails have been murdered by Shellac - what can I do?

Got a Shellac at Christmas. First ever one.

After it was removed (January) my nails started breaking - so I cut them shorter. But they still are breaking - ones just broken so they it's now shorter than my fingertip. (And is sore.)

Theres still a few mm of the buffered nail left to go on all fingers - so I can see that breaking too

Is there anything I can do!!?

Keep them short, opi nail envy applied regularly, cuticle oil massaged every night.

I have shellac pretty much all summer and then spend winter doing the above to strengthen the nails again. If I continued the shellac it'd be fine because they stay rock hard but I can't afford that!

I think some of us just don't have suitable nails. It trashes mine every time takes a good 6 months to sort them out. First month or so is horrendous and painful. I've given up now. Friends have them done regularly by the same person with no ill effects. Harrummppphhhh!

Had mine done every two weeks since July last year and my nails are in good condition. Not quite as thick as normal and a couple of marks but I'm using nail envy and oil to keep the looking good. Luckily my nails grow crazily fast so if they are damaged it will be gone in a few weeks.

Even real shellac can damage if not applied and removed correctly and I was also told to use solar oil twice a day when I had the shellac on to keep up the condition of my nails.

What method do you use for removal?

Fluffycloudland77 · 14/02/2017 21:00

CND foil wraps with a little lint free pad, and nourishing remover. It's 5 minutes for express5 topcoat, 8 for normal, 15 for duraforce.

I saw a tech whose nails have been trashed by gel removal using plain acetone at an IBX training day

I used to be fine with shellac but then developed an aversion to it! Same with gel - I do t seem to be able to tolerate the acetone removal wraps anymore.

So I now maintain my nails with solar oil, Jessica restore or cnd rescuerxx, if they're breaking I'll put Mavala on the tips.
