Hair dye disaster

I have naturally dark mousey blonde hair and fancied going darker. Mistake. It's gone ginger. I read that a light ash brown colour can correct it, is that right? How quickly after the disaster can I re-dye?

I just used colour remover on my hair (big mistake I know), it went orange. I know a hairdresser and she gave me a dark ash blonde semi permanent go over it. It went pretty dark but it completely knocked out the orange tones. If you can't go to a hairdresser, could you maybe go into somewhere like Sally's?

Second the ash brown. I have had a couple of unintended orange hair episodes. Whatever you do: do NOT do colour remover as pp said. Even if it promises it won't go orange / brassy. It definitely will. Clairol have good semi- permanent shades if not going to hairdresser - the ash / neutral ones. I re-dyed mine straightaway, day after. My hair went to shit for a while but at least i didn't look look flourescent anymore.

Ps hair didn't go to bad condition from either dye as such just more the double dye but means to an end. If you can get a cut then a trim gets the worst ginger bits off the end.

From my experience dying my hair far too many times as a teen, you want a dark ash blonde, semi permanent as they usually contain less bleach. Then overnight conditioner if possible, and heavily condition every day for a week at least so your hair doesn't die completely. Also when washing the dye out use water that's as cold as you can stand as it closes the hairs follicles and makes it less likely to break. I usually go at least 24 hours after, if you can go longer its better.

Well I braved it with the ash brown and it's actually turned out ok, although my roots still have a red-ish hue about them. Might give my hair a little rest before tackling that but for now it's liveable!

I did this too. I'm sure I can still see a bit of red, but also giving my hair time to recover. Then I will put on another ash blonde if it starts looking bad again. I also cut quite a lot off to get rid of damaged hair.

I did this as well. Using dark ash blonde dyes to banish the orange tones. It's fucking annoying.

I've got orange coming through again at my roots but pinning my fringe back is hiding it a little. I'm getting an ash brown root coverup soon though. Definitely works!
