Best gym clothing hats affordable and isn't from Sports Direct?

ForSaleChesterDraws · 12/02/2017 13:03

The title says it all. I'm a size 16 and need gym clothes that are reasonably priced and high on the waist some my ample arse doesn't fall out when I squat.

Every thread just says Sports Direct but seeing as though I hate everything about the company and Mike Ashley so won't be spending a penny there.

What are the supermarket ranges like? Or are there any other places to look at?

I keep forgetting my gym gear and as I do small group Pilates classes it's better value to buy new gear than to cancel with less than 24hrs notice Anyway, TK max has been my saviour. Decent gear. Nice high waist for the mum tum. Comfy and washes well. Top and bottoms for around £30.

And I promise I won't forget my gym gear again. Two sets of new gear was just about acceptable. A third would not be.

Missbohan · 12/02/2017 20:41

Primark have really good gym stuff these days - a lot of choice. T k maxx is ok but at my local branch all they ever seem to have is those "elle" hoodies and xs leggings so more a primark fan for gym stuff - plus it is cheap and cheerful for working out

squiz81 · 12/02/2017 20:55

Decathlon is good value. I recently got some running tights, I'm really pleased with them.
Off to check out H&M after reading this thread now.. .

ForSaleChesterDraws · 14/02/2017 20:44

Arghh!!! I bought some Sainsbury's ones. They bloody start falling down at the tum in the middle of the class.

M&S cropped leggings are amazingly good.

Closetlibrarian · 14/02/2017 20:51

Gap - their 'Gap Fit' range is brilliant. Sign up for their emails because they're always doing discount codes - think there's a 30% off one on at the moment.
I like the 'breathe' range for tops (very soft!) and have found their leggings really good too (as in they stay up!)

Blackhouse · 14/02/2017 20:52

I just got a pair of high waisted work out leggings from Primark for £3 in the sale and I love them! They are brilliant!

ArriettyClock1 · 14/02/2017 21:51

I can't get on with anything that isn't Adidas, Nike, Ronhill or Under Armour and for that reason I buy from John Lewis.

I have tried non-branded stuff but it just isn't good enough.

thecapitalsunited · 14/02/2017 21:54

Asda. I'm a size 22 and can't fault my Asda leggings. Even 45 mins on a spin bike which makes everything jiggle like mad doesn't make them roll down. Unlike the m&s ones which cost twice the price.

randomsabreuse · 15/02/2017 11:58

I only buy leggings with a functional tie at the waist after finishing a run holding my very comfortable (when not running) high waisted leggings in one hand and the dog's lead in the other... Everything else is secondary to a tie at the waist!

violetgrey · 15/02/2017 12:04

H&M here too! Great designs and fit. Or TK Maxx if you can bare it.

Liiinoo · 15/02/2017 12:29

Whenever I admire someone's gym kit it always seems to be from Tesco.

Lambzig · 15/02/2017 18:53

Great stuff from tkmaxx, some great bargains for high end brands -love the Brooks and Under Armour stuff they have sometimes, I buy online. My friend rates Matalan really highly. I also have a few great tops from H&M.

Glitteryfrog · 15/02/2017 20:04

Primark is fine
John Lewis is more exciting
Decathlon, you need to have a good wander around and look at all the sports. Just because it's a 'hockey' top doesn't mean I can't wear it to the gym
I like h&m

cherrytree63 · 16/02/2017 16:54

Another Decathlon fan here, with Lidl and Aldi as runners up!

MsUnderstanding · 16/02/2017 17:08

Have you looked at Matalan?

ForSaleChesterDraws · 17/02/2017 22:47

No, I never remember natalan. I'm off to look.

GAP leggings! They're ace.

allthingslipsticks · 18/02/2017 09:32

I've gotten great gym gear from H&M.

mowglik · 18/02/2017 09:48

Came on to say Matalan and thought there would be loads of people recommending their stuff! Great designs and good quality wear, doesn't get ruined in the wash and nice and cheap esp with the discounts they often have.

mowglik · 18/02/2017 09:48

Their range is called souluxe

ForSaleChesterDraws · 18/02/2017 21:40

Wow. I'm looking at the matalan stuff and that waistband looks perfect. I might need a detour there!

ForSaleChesterDraws · 25/02/2017 23:43

Well that Matalan stuff was a bag of sh!te. Nothing passed the bending over test. Also the website photos make it look like the waist bands are a good few inches deep, so would hold you in. In real life, the fabric is folded over and there's just a regular piece of elastic floating about. So no magic hold you in powers.
