I have frizzy curly hair I always straighten. I got some curling tongs a couple of years ago and want to start using them.

Can anyone recommend good curling products to either use with the tongs or to put on my hair to encourage the curl.

If I leave it to dry naturally I look like side show bob from the Simpsons.

Wold particularly like something to use when on holiday thanks

Another vote for the curly girl method. My hair is so much healthier, curlier, shinier and less frizzy since I started. The Curly Girls facebook page is a mine of information and the members are so helpful. Some very inspirational photos on there too.

Thanks everyone. I had looked at the curly girl thing before but had trouble working out what curl it was. Wil have another look.
Does anyone do anything twisting on pininning hair to help with the curl (sorry didn't explain that very well)

After I put on my leave in conditioner and detangle I tend to twist as curl strands of hair on my fingers whilst it is still damp. I then let it dry naturally

Wells curl it pre-treatment.

Run it through damp hair as leave in conditioner, with a bit of boucleme gel mixed in.

So, this curly girl method. You wash your hair with conditioner instead of shampoo full of bad stuff?
I picked up the Superdrug extracts one for coloured hair today to try it out.

After I apply gel (to soaking wet hair, I find that works best for me) I separate the curls and twist them round my fingers. I let it dry as much as I can and then give a blast with the hairdryer, scrunching as I do to add body and get rid of any crispiness.

Cornwall you need to do one last wash with shampoo containing sulphates to rid your hair of silicones. After that no sulphates and no silicones. The book is excellent and there's a few facebook groups/a wiki how. Sooo good!

Phyto 9 leave in conditioner - amazing and no silicones. Never brush hair, unless before tying up in bun or just before washing. Only comb - and make sure you wet it first, I spray with that avene water stuff but any spray bottle will do obviously just use that one for convenience. Then comb. No frizz that way. Also use big clips where possible, whenever i tie my hair up with a hairband, unless i am about to wash it, i always get a major kink.

Oh and Green People conditioner is brilliant for my hair, no idea what's in it and doesn't say for curly hair but makes my hair curlier and less frizzier. Love it. Philip Kingsley shampoo good too.

Missbohan · 13/02/2017 04:29

Urgh meant less frizzy not 'frizzier'!!!!!!

This is my hair OP. I only ever brush it when I'm washing it which is once a week. I have to as finger combing doesn't get all the dead ones out as I have very thick hair.

I used to tong my hair all the time, until I just thought how ridiculous it was to be in essence be straightening my hair to put a curl back in.

I now wash with say yes to blueberries shampoo (or whatever SLS free shampoo I can find) cheap Wilkos fruit conditioner as it's silicone free, brush when wet then scrunch to 'clump' the curls. My hair is dry as hell so I apply loads of the same conditioner I rinse off in the shower then apply Tesco value blue gel. It's important to kind of scrunch into your hair without running your fingers through as that disturbs the curl pattern.

I dry using a hairdryer and diffuser and touch as little as possible. If it looks crispy, then scrunch the crisp out when dry.

Perfect curls every day.

But, if you do want to tong your hair, I use frizzease 3 day straight and blow dry.

Oh and days when I don't wash if I have time I rinse through completely in the shower and then do the same adding of conditioner and gel etc.

If I don't have time I spritz with a spray bottle of water and use a bit of conditioner to smooth any frizz.

Evilstepmum01 · 13/02/2017 17:25

oooh, this is brilliant! Thanks for the advice about Superdrug conditioners-theres a store next town over, so I can get it!

I co-washed last night with Argan oil conditioner (no silicone) and scrunched mousse in then let it dry naturally! Today, I've got my curls back!
Had it cut shorter 2 weeks ago so its manageable and had the weight chopped off the ends so its wavy and sitting pretty!

Thanks!! :)
