What do we do with just a few grey hairs, then?

... if we don't want to color all hair? About a year into happily growing out my own hair color, I now have a few grey hairs around my face.

Are touch-up pens any good?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

"Applied with toothbrush (old, obvs) to the grey patch - wait, rinse and grey patch gone."

Good advice to apply with toothbrush. I'll try that, thanks Smile

Op, I'm similar in that I have dark hair with about 10-20 greys near my ears. I've been using Lush henna for about a year, but it hasn't really worked on the greys.

I've now conceded that I'm going to have to get it coloured at the hairdressers.

Newtssuitcase · 10/02/2017 07:43

I have "natural glossing" (posh hairdresser speak for a semi which is the exact same colour as your own hair). It just fills in the greys and makes my hair super shiny.

megletthesecond · 10/02/2017 07:46

You brazen it out.

IMO greying hair suits the skin tone more. Coloured hair seems to drain the face. I've spent way too much time pondering this because I'm going grey and looking at other people I reckon grey looks nicer.

CoteDAzur · 10/02/2017 07:50

I'd consider "brazen it out" if I had more greys. It's really just about 15-20 of them grouped in three little patches.

Newt - I have had that "gloss" done, too, but it doesn't last very long ime.

That's interesting, chanie. Thanks for the info.

It lasts a couple of months. By then your hair will have grown anyway and so you'd need to touch up whatever method you chose.

I don't have a visible root line though, just a few randoms.

marplesmarbles · 10/02/2017 07:56

I've got v dark hair and a similar problem. I haven't tried it yet, so can't confirm if it's genius idea I think it is....Grin
Eyelash dye- make up small amount and slather it on and leave it till next wash. You'd need a kit that's one step dye not some of the new ones that you have to paint on lotion one then apply lotion two.

I know someone who uses a sharpie pen to touch up regrowth as an emergency measure.

Plentyoffishnets · 10/02/2017 10:58

I recently bought a shwarzcopf colour refresher spray.mousse which only really lasts one wash but you shampoo and then use it instead of conditioner, I bought the brown one for my very dark brown hair - it covers the greys and one can lasted at least 7 applications and was only a couple of quid. I think it's aimed at teeneagers really but have had loads of compliments about my hair since started using it.

Honey1975 · 10/02/2017 22:58

Fuzzypeggy please could you explain more about what you do with the blonde colour - is it like a tint?
I currently have highlights at the hairdresser but they are so expensive I would be interested in an alternative to cover my increasing number of greys.

Fuzzypeggy · 11/02/2017 08:25

Honey, I use one by Daniel field, it's called watercolours. It haa
No bleach unlike many blond dyes, so it just adds blond pigment to my white hairs and leaves the natural brown unaffected. And hey presto, highlights!

picklemepopcorn · 11/02/2017 08:30

Welcome them and celebrate your growing maturity!

Henna doesn't work well on grey, by the way. It either doesn't take or the colour is unpredictable.

Honey1975 · 11/02/2017 08:37

Fuzzy sounds perfect, where can I get that & would it be ok to use over my already highlighted but not for a while hair?

CoteDAzur · 11/02/2017 09:25

Fuzzy that does sound perfect. Is it easy to use?

I know this is an old thread, but my friend has used Daniel Field for her greys (turning them into highlights without affecting her natural colour) for about a year. She picks a colour about two shades lighter than her natural shade and it has a natural effect. I came across this interesting article too, this method seems to be the French way: www.domino.com/content/cover-up-gray-hairs-french/
