Are these dresses too similar

Hope you can all help. Been chatting w family member due to be married soon. I've just received my dress for the wedding today and love it (it's the second image/screen capture, not the one with a person modelling/darker dress).

I wore a similar style dress to another family wedding, and the shape of it suits me well. I can also use the petticoat thing from the first dress.

I excitedly sent the image to family member. She joked I will almost match the wedding party (see dress one). I told her I was more than happy to change my dress if she thought they were too similar. She is fine/doesn't mind.

I don't want to look like I'm trying to edge into the wedding party though.

She is lovely, and I don't want to make it something that niggles.

I do love the dress though, and I find it quite hard to find things that fit me well (short arse with hips/boobs).

Help!

That style of dress could take low or high, I think, but...

Wedding shoes depend on what you're going to be doing in them. Eg if you're likely to be traipsing over grass at the venue or for photos, heels are definitely best avoided. Standing around? Dancing?

I'm not a style guru, I hate shoes that limit what women can do Grin, and the last wedding I went to the grass not only had women tottering but also ruined a few pairs of pale suede or fabric ones.

StillRunningWithScissors · 01/02/2017 13:38

Errol I agree with not liking limiting shows. I think I was unclear. There will be grass, so I'm hoping for someone to point me to some good low or mid heel shoes to go with the dress (I'd go with my 8hole dr martens if I didn't think mil would have a heart attack ;-)

If you go to the schuh website and select by "low heel" there are lots of styles there that would look good. What sort of shoes (apart from DMs!) do you prefer? Round toes / pointed toes? Colours / nude?

StillRunningWithScissors · 01/02/2017 14:28

Olennas thanks! I prefer a colour vs nude, and round toes.

I have a pair of sandals that I love, but not sure if they'd suit. They're Mohedas. I'll try to get a pick.

Here they are.

I think they would look lovely! Except they are no tights shoes, and if the wedding is soon you might prefer shoes and tights?

StillRunningWithScissors · 01/02/2017 15:48

Olennas, oh thanks for your reply. I do love them (very comfy). Wedding is summer time, so no tights should be fine (and saves me shopping for a new pair ;-)

Do you think the shoes being navy blue determines what colour jacket I need to go with (ie, match shoes to jacket?), or should I try to just match a colour in the dress?

Thanks!

I'd match either shoes and bag or shoes and jacket and go with one of the other colours in the dress for the non-matched thing (IYSWIM)

StillRunningWithScissors · 01/02/2017 15:57

Olennas That makes a lot of sense. Might go shoes and jacket, as I have a bag that won't match shoes.
Thank you!

How many bridesmaids are there? If there's at least 2 and they're both wearing the same dress then you'll be fine as they'll be the same and you'll be in a different dress.

Bumbumtaloo · 01/02/2017 16:03

I'm planning on getting these to wear to a wedding with a similar dress to yours (which is gorgeous by the way!)

Do you have a smartish denim jacket? That would go well, and then you could have pink accessories etc.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 01/02/2017 16:13

Both dresses are generic A line floral, there will be plenty of other women wearing similar.
Bridesmaid dress is dark, traditional floral, yours is light, modern floral. Quite different.
Above posters suggestion to wear a jacket for ceremony is great

(your dress is nicer!)
