40's. Totally tired after a couple of hours of ambling.

Really, really low on energy.

Willing to consider any smoothie/supplements/food/exercise ideas.

Tips very gratefully received Smile

Last winter, I was going to bed pretty much as soon as I got home from work. No energy, felt really low and just generally knackered and crap.

This year, I've been taking vitamin d tabs every day along with iron and vit c. I'm also using a SAD light and have been getting regular exercise. I honestly feel like a different person and it's SO nice. Even people at work have said I have 'sparkle' again.

humblebumble · 29/01/2017 20:47

I had my B12 tested recently and it turned out I was low in addition Vit D. I exercise and eat well so I wouldn't typically add things to my diet but I have to tell you the B12 tablets I take have really made a difference to my energy level. I take a type that is called b12 sublingual.

Vitamin D means I can get up in the morning without feeling like a bus has hit me. I struggled with energy levels for years until a routine blood test forced me on to supplements. I take 5000iu daily.

Beautifullymixed · 29/01/2017 20:58

Another vitamin d3 fan here.
I also take a vitamin b complex, a fizzy vitamin c and zinc effervescent every morning, along with liquid feroglobin iron (better for my tummy).
I'm an insomniac, and this gets me up and doing a thousand and one things at a time, needed for my job.

mindmyarse · 29/01/2017 21:37

If you are taking it in tablet form what type of Vitamin D are you buying ?

Beautifullymixed · 29/01/2017 21:46

I take these tablets , and take two a day.
They are a good brand.

ChishandFips33 · 29/01/2017 22:20

These are the ones I take, bought from supermarket - not the cheapest but often on 3for2

Ha snap Beautifullymixed!

Yours are way better prices than I pay. Buying from Amazon from now on!

notagiraffe · 29/01/2017 23:07

I use the same spray as NotToday. It's really good.

Sheusedtobesomeonelse · 30/01/2017 10:09

I second the tips for vitamine C and exercice, its a real effort to start with but totally worth it 3 weeks down the line - 4/5 times a week proper heart racing stuff! I run but it doesnt have to be running, anything combined with a healthy diet would help. Cut down on the sugar too!
If i lived in the UK i would def. use a SAD light. I think its a combination of things : mental well being can have such an impact on our physical wellbeing.. Just have to take the first steps to start feeling better, one way or another!

So the chemist wasn't open yesterday but I managed to get to Holland Barrett earlier and bought c/b/tyrosine/D spray. I already have an unopened bottle of Floradix at home I'd completely forgotten I had.

I will do them all with dh after work today.

The only exercise I do at the moment is 7-10,000 steps a day with the dog. She's too young to leave at home for me to go to an exercise class as dh doesn't get home til 8. We are moving in a few weeks so hopefully I can leave her then.

Our diet is pretty good, mostly vegetarian, lots of salads and vegetables. I'm not veggie but dh is so I just occasionally cook meat/fish for me. I do eat too many biscuits, perhaps 3/4 a day but not masses.

In my next order I will be stepping up the veg solely to do a morning veg smoothie.

Really grateful for all the help Smile

The supplements look good OP.
I had to google tyrosine - had never heard of it!
I hope you start feeling livelier asap.

I also take omega fish oil capsules as well, they help with hair, skin and nails. They are also supposed to support brain function.
I don't know if they do, but as I aproach the peri menapausal stage, I need all the help I can get!

Riversiderunner · 30/01/2017 17:40

Also iron - if you have heavy periods post-having children, you could be low in iron.

I do that and Vit D - not sure which has worked but I'm not giving up either as they've definitely worked!

VilootShesCute · 30/01/2017 17:46

I tried being a vegan for 6 months. Changed my life! I felt like I could run a marathon every day! Down side is you fart almost constantly. But it was worth it.

Lorelei76 · 30/01/2017 19:18

On MN, I've noticed a lot of people take vit c daily
Is it for immunity or do you feel it has other benefits?
I'm an odd one because I'm okay for energy but have really bad insomnia and that gets harder to cope with in winter.

AndShesGone · 30/01/2017 19:39

Viloot

There is NO WAY I'm taking up farting all day Grin

I gave up wheat I try and work out what was giving me eczema. It turned out to be dairy, but when I started eating wheat again, my energy levels really plummeted, and I remembered how I had felt for months previously. Went onto a chatroom for people eating clean, and this is quite common. Lots of people telling mere look good too, which of unusual in January.

Lorelei76 · 30/01/2017 20:10

OP I'm doing Veganuary and it hasn't happened to me!

HappenstanceMarmite · 30/01/2017 21:12

Ordered the Vit D spray. What's the story with Tyrosone?

notagiraffe · 01/02/2017 19:32

Happenstance
L-Tyrosine is an amino acid that boosts your mental energy. It's used by athletes before races and is safe for teenagers to take before exams. It just sharpens your mind a bit and keeps it lively so it doesn't slump during the day. Great side effect is it makes your fingernails strong, which if you have flaky, weak ones, is a real find.
I'm always telling people about it because I searched for years for tiredness cures and only found out about it by accident, but it does work.

OP - hope they do the trick. The combination of Tyrosine, Vit-D spray and Floradix is my magic combination. They've given me back energy I'd not had in years.

notagiraffe · 01/02/2017 19:38

OP the other thing I've started doing is having berries for breakfast and raw veg salad for lunch. As many different veg as you can bear to prepare: grated beetroot and carrot, kale, peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, leaves, etc sprinkled with mixed seeds and some nuts or dried fruit. It really gives an energy kick for the afternoon.

Destinysdaughter · 01/02/2017 20:13

I did low carb a few years ago and the difference in my energy was astonishing however I don't know if it was cutting out the wheat, sugar or alcohol that did it!
