Where can I find a decent mascara?

Hello everyone

I have experimented with lots of different mascaras, and whilst sometimes they are good, I have yet to find a 'staple' mascara, so I was wondering what you would recommend 😊

I've tried so many brands but have yet to find one that I love. My most recent try-outs were : Benefit Cosmetics Bad Girl Lash (always smudged after an hour or two and gave me panda eyes) and Soap and Glory Thick and Fast (seemed to clump all of my lashes??)

I'm more than willing to shell out for a decent mascara, but so far I haven't found one that I want to keep using, but I don't want to keep buying new ones after spending the money on one that's meant to be decent

What would you recommend?

Boots no 7 Stay Perfect is fantastic. It's the only one that i can wear all day and it never smudges. I've recommended it to loads of friends and colleagues and they all say the same.

I always go back to Lancome Definicils - it does the job well, nice and 'wet' iykwim
But Im a salesperson's dream so I'm always trying other brands
At the moment I'm using L'Oréal Architect which was recommended by Sali Hughes in her best buys under £20
It's a lot 'drier' and does tend to clump ( which for night time I quite like)
I didn't like Bad gal by benefit but roller lash is also rather lovely

Depends what you are looking for. I love eyeco long and tall at the moment but I hate thickening mascaras or a fake look. This has been clump free for me and I will be repurchasing.

Placemarking as currently have 3 on the go and they're all fairly meh.

Benefit They're Real- er, they're hyped out of all proportion, that's for sure. Make my rabbit with flu lashes thicker, sure, but at the expense of gloop and clump and then drying to a hard crisp which defeats the object as it pulls the bloody lash off with it when I cleanse!

17 red and yellow pot (recommended on a Top 10 mascara list) Cheap as chips and frankly, it shows.

L'Oreal one in a shiny brown geometrical tube- worst of the 3.

Best I've had recently was one with two brushes, it was a Maybelline in a red shiny pot. Didn't use the little brush for the lower lashes, but the other one was great. Sadly, I picked it up in Asda and it had been reduced to £1.99. Presumably because it was being discontinued.

Having spend £££££s on a handful of mid-range ones, I might go all out and get a high end one for once and see if it makes any difference.

I seem to remember Lancôme Hypnose (or something) being lovely but haven't had it for ages. Not very "natural" looking but not clumpy or smudgy. Currently got an Estée Lauder one which is nice? Agree it depends on the look you want

I have also tried loads and been hugely underwhelmed with any high end ones. Also find the benefit ones totally useless. I always go back to max factor false lash effect.

I love my urban decay perversion mascara. It goes on smoothly and doesn't clump, makes my (admittedly already long) lashes look amazing

Superdrug B waterproof.

It's very layereable compared to the Lancome I tried. I've tried them all over the years and will stick with this one now.

I think it was £2.

Smashbox full exposure. Gets lots of compliments!

I've been wearing Bobbi Brown Intensifying Long Wear for a couple of years now. It's v natural and soft looking but definitely increases lash look - I have really short eyelashes normally, and it lengthens them.

Max factor false lash. I've been using for about a thousand years - lots of occasional dalliances with others but nothing compares

After lots of recommendations here I am a convert to Clinique lash power.

Like lots of people, I used benefit for ages but just hated the constant smudging. The Clinique one gives a nice slightly more than natural coverage and NEVER smudges even if I've been lying down. It's also much easier than I expected to take off and comes off with cleanser and water easily, no need for eye make up remover.

YSL one, can't recall name, but the tube is clear and square, the top is gold. A bitch to get off, but great.

Also Barry M one in a purple tube. Very good for the price.

Not a fan of the benefit bad gal or they're real but the rollerlash is amazing. I don't know anyone else that uses it and sometimes panic slightly that it may be discontinued

Estée Lauder double wear anti smudge. It's great!

Max factor masterpiece waterproof is great.

Another fan of Clinique Lash Power here. Never smudges and have received compliments and people asking what I use. Makes my lashes look long and really 'opens' my eyes.

My go to is this but I have just tried this which I also love. In fact, I'm seriously torn between them so might try the bourjois again just to be sure. I do find, in general, that once a mascara has been in use for around a month, they all begin to go a little clumpy, however much I spend on them. I now make a point of opening a new one on the first of the month.

I've just got the brand new loreal fibres one (double ended purple tube) it's really good for longer lashes, but you have to be quick between step 1 and 2, if you let 1 dry when you put on step 2 it goes really 14 year old spider lashes!!

The brush is more important than you might think. When you find a brush you like but you might not be fond of the actual mascara formula find other mascaras that have a similar brush to the one you like.

Lancôme, maybelline, L'Oréal are all Nestle companies (if that matters to you).

The ones I repurchased several times are my trustworthy Clinique High Impact, Lancome Hypnose, Maybelline Volume Express Turbo. All stay well, define and elongate lashes without clumping, basically for day look.

I don't know whether this would be helpful, but I have learned that mini sized mascara a seem to work better than their full size counterparts for some reason, they also last roughly the amount of time that you should be using and then discarding (3 months I think you're meant to replace a mascara?)
A few brands do mini versions, such as urban decay perversion mascara, benefit do a set of 4 or 5 mini mascaras.
Sorry I couldn't actually provide a definitive answer, but I have always found lancome work nicely if you're ever looking at the higher end stuff.

Max factor Clump Defy is the only one for me.

Once a tube dries up I always go and pick something new and then curse myself a few days later and go back for more Clump Defy!
