Mumsnet HELP! My make up falls off my face

Hi all,

So this has always been an issue but it's gotten much worse of late. My DS has been extremely ill and now diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. I am alone with him and his sister, so all care (which is a lot) is down to me, as is house upkeep, school run etc.

i'm coping fine but the stress and tiredness are really telling on me - especially my face. I have started back with my beauty regime and applying make up in the morning. It's off and i look like shit before lunch. It just seems to slip off my face.

I use benefits primer. i don't like the full coverage look. Can anyone please please advise on how to apply make up so i can at least pretend to look fresh through out the day?

i've been through a really rough time and i just need to feel better about myself; i'm early 40s

Thanks in advance

Hmm sounds like your skin is similar to my sister's. She swears by serum rather than moisturiser but I don't know which one I'm afraid. She has found it has really improved her skin, less oily and fewer breakouts.
Not sure if that's helpful info or not !

Something to do with the serum being absorbed better so she feels like it's not sitting on top of her skin as moisturiser does, if that makes any sense ?

violet is spot on re the lose powder with a puff rather than brush is better if you have slippage

Also- blotting removes the oil that degrades your foundation, that is what is making it disappear. Blotting doesn't remove the makeup itself. That's the great genius of blotting!

To my shame I use hand paper towels and / or recycled paper napkins to blot! They seem to drink up the oil like nothing else. But only the really dry ones, not the soft ones. I used to use rice paper and discovered the paper towel works better but that was many years ago. Starbucks recycled napkins work great. Blush

I was having the same issue, went for a MAC makeup lesson and she used lots more powder than I would normally use.

There's a fine balance between looking 'cakey' and keeping the makeup on all day, but it does work.

I have heard a lot of good things about the Laura Mercier powder, on my list to try next, trying to buy a new stuff until I finish my existing hoard though.

My skin is sensitive combination with lots of shine esp on my nose - I've started using la Roche posay effaclar skincare and smash box primer - really finding the combination works well - I blot part way through the day ( just with tissue) and make up is staying put much better.

Has anyone tried the smash box foundation/powder? Wondering whether to give them a try. Love the photo finish light primer.

Thank you everyone for your replies thus far, v. helpful.

So:

Change to a serum for moisturiser.

Blot (half way through the day or more?)

Invest in a good primer - smash box finish light primer

and invest in a good powder foundation - Laura Mercier being highly recommended?

OK?

Thanks again.
