I'm not so much pink toned as blue....

Have always tried to warm my complexion with yellow/peachy toned foundation but now, it's starting to make me look a bit Donald Trump! What should I be going for. Have read many recommendations for Healthy Mix Foundation but again, they're yellow toned.

Should we all be yellow toned? Am lost and nearly 55 so want to (finally) get it right, without looking half dead and in need of a blood transfusion. Please, help!!!

Today, I tried out the No7 cool beige (or was it cool ivory....I'm hopeless!). Anyhow, I looked kind of flat. Dead. Utterly lifeless. By the time I'd warmed myself up with blush and a pale bronzer I looked more like me. Perhaps I've just got used to the colour of the made up me. Honestly though, the No7 made me look really tired out.

Tomorrow, a Clarins sample in Sand. Again, looks warm to me; yellow based but the SA said it was a neutral.

You could be neutral. You're not as pale as some of the foundations suggested. You're about 4 shades 'darker' than I am for example. You can be cooled toned no matter how pale or dark your skin is.

I think you're neutral though. Would explain why cool looked flat. Although that could've just been the formula.

I can always spot cool-toned people with warm-toned foundations a mile off. It looks dreadful IMO. I am cool-toned, and I even look ridiculous in most bronzers. Pink blushers look great on me.

Go to a good department store and get matched at a couple of counters. Me, I am a MAC foundation fan, so perhaps try them.

Cool and neutral foundations are indeed yellow, but not as yellow as warm-toned ones. They are however, pinker than warm foundations and therefore will blend far better with your skin and make you look better.

I 4th the no 7 recommendation. I'm pale and cool and the colourmatching thing is brilliant. I think I'm calico and it looks almost grey as mentioned above but it's a genius match. I like that they do exactly matched concealers too. I have loads of high end foundations but the no 7 looks best on me. Over the Rimmel primer with the red lid.

StatisticallyChallenged · 24/01/2017 19:49

It could also be the formulation; no7 foundations just don't work for me at all.

Lancome are normally pretty decent at colour matching rather than going for the Tango Trump look. They have a few different foundations all with decent shade ranges.

I have no foundation advice as I'm a yellow toned person but just wanted to say that's a fine looking dog Grin

The dog is my most beautiful thing! (Apart from ds) 😊

Hanging around to find out the name of that chanel blusher .........

10Betty10 · 25/01/2017 01:00

Lily Lolo mineral foundation would work well for you (I love the stuff, pretty much all the women in my family have switched to it as well actually!) They also do sample pots for about a pound each. I don't think you are actually a cool tone though, more of a pink/neutral. I reckon it would be worth trying their sample pots in- Candy Cane, Barely Buff and Popsicle. I use Blondie but I am a lot paler than you so reckon it would be too light. You have really nice clear skin so a mineral would look a lot lighter and fresher than a liquid as you don't need it for blemish coverage so much.

10Betty10 · 25/01/2017 01:04

Ps. I don't get the hype on HealthyMix- I tried it and it was terrible for me- it was a weird mixture of oily and cakey! (My skin isn't even remotely oily either!)

Eliza22 · 25/01/2017 08:20

Thanks for the shade recommendations, 10Betty10

And the Chanel blush is..... Kit30??

Interested in which Chanel blush too - I wonder if it is this?

I had the opposite -in that I went to the Lancome counter and they sent me away with a foundation that looked ok until I got hom - it was a pink beinge colour and looked grey in the light of day. I am a warm ivory. I think the French companies go for pink shades. I think Nars does some pale shades too Siberia and Alaska I believe.

Eliza22 · 25/01/2017 11:02

Now. I couldn't find the Clarins sample this morning so went with a second day of the No7. Have to say, it looks better today. Or, maybe a just slept well? I'm a bit pink in this photo as I've blusher in and have been out for a bracing walk with the dog. But, it looks ok. Will see how it wears. It's the Lift and Luminate foundation.

I think it is a little too yellow orange for you to be honest, sorry! I can tell you have foundation on, which means it isn't good foundation.x

10Betty10 · 25/01/2017 11:07

Blusher is a nice colour though Smile

Eliza22 · 25/01/2017 11:08

Oh, and here's one of the dog, for Kr1stina getting ready for her walk!

Ah, good point 10Betty10.

you could definitely get away with something more lightweight as you don't have blemishes- would look a lot fresher
