If I dare.... have you ever done this? Already planning on hanging on to those size too small jeans! Oh dear! What about all those shoes I never wear but are so pretty! Hope I can do this!

I did it using the Marie Kondo principles. It kind of worked, got rid of about half my stuff and was interesting too. It became really obvious which colours / fabrics I was drawn too which makes shopping much easier / quicker now.

Oh sounds intriguing is it easy to google? Did you feel guilty getting rid of those clothes you've never worn but are in good condition?

I felt the opposite of guilt about giving nice unworn things to charity shops. I was relieved that they were no longer hanging in my wardrobe reminding me I still haven't lost the stone I need to get into them and happy that someone somewhere was going to get a lovely new dress (that would fit them ) at a bargain price. Win win.

Good luck with your cull. I am clearing out a book collection of over 50 years and am finding it cathartic.

I did mine soo quickly.

Everything out and on the bed.

Then 5 piles:

  1. Deffo keep
  2. Not sure why I'm holding onto this. I like it but don't wear it/wrong season
  3. Sell
  4. Charity
  5. Chuck/rags

Keep going til bed is empty. On your way out for a walk to clear your head, bag up pile 4 and take to front door/ boot of car/garage.

Go through pile two and store what you're keeping but won't wear in next few weeks, add any stuff to other piles. Put in loft/under bed. Review in a few months.

Took me about an hour and a half, couldn't believe how fast it was.

The key is to take everything out first. And DON'T TRY IT ON UNTIL YOU'VE DONE THIS INITIAL EDIT. I feel like I can make lots more outfits now. Wood from trees style.

(My sell pile is glaring at me from the floor in my home office Blush)

Definitely read up on Marie Kondo. You may find you end up doing more than just your clothes.
I cut my wardrobe back to a third, including lots of things I'd kept that weren't currently the right size.

PovertyJetset · 19/01/2017 15:32

Please offer your old clothes to your mates!! We do this lots!

AgathaMystery · 19/01/2017 15:39

Agree with Football!

The prob with offering stuff to friends is it can take a while to get it to them. The trick is to get stuff out the house ASAP.

I sent 9 bags to the charity shop on day 1

Itscurtainsforyou · 19/01/2017 16:25

I've done this too - it's very liberating Smile

GeorgiePeachie · 19/01/2017 16:29

DOES IT SPARK JOY??

I have been doing this but slowly. even if I think its a useful jumper that's warm and I like the colour I wore it one more time during the day and looked at my self in shop windows when I wasnt posing and realised so much of what I wear is frumpy on me. AWAY WITH YOU.

Uhohmummy · 19/01/2017 18:10

For those who have culled - has it changed your approach to buying new things?
(Sorry to hijack)

autumnglow · 19/01/2017 22:15

So I've maimed as opposed to culled I reckon. Will read Marie kondo and revisit wardrobe. Ive checked my colours in John Lewis but that's it so far. I've probably ditched 30'pieces and 10'pairs of shoes. How do you organise your wardrobe by colour by outfit by type? I'm hoping I've got rid of all the tat and drab and things that are too small - even the jeans!
