Anti-aging cream for 43yr old

Can anyone recommend a good anti-ageing cream for a 43yr old please?

I got my passport photos done yesterday and I have never seen a more haggard look!

I do not have a care routine and do not wear make up. I do have my curly hair cut and coloured four times a year and I wear glasses.

However, I feel that as I get older I should be making more of an effort to look less worn down. I am 43 and work full time. I also have 3.5yr old twins.

Any advice on a good cream that will give me a boost, get rid of the dark rings under my eyes and make me look less like a stressed middle aged mum of toddlers?

I think that in your 40s, you need to invest a bit more time in your skincare routine to keep it looking fresh. I'm 42 and I use a serum from Aldi morning and night and a lactic acid l at night (to encourage skin to get rid of old cells and renew itself). I also use a brightener in the mornings to give my skin a bit of a zing. It's nothing special, just boots brightening cream.
Not much clue about under eyes but maybe more water and some good concealer?

cornwall if you want to get serious about skincare it's generally serums that contain active ingredients and thats what you need. Creams are really only for simple moisturisation.

It's also really important to incorporate an SPF everyday (even cloudy days as UV still penetrates and is one of biggest causes of skin ageing)

Recommendations are difficult because lots of factors determine which active ingredients would work best. Gin mentions the ordinary but even with their information guides, it's very confusing for a novice (no disrespect).

If you've got time, head over to the ongoing thread 'yet more fantastic skincare'. If you read through from thread 1 you'll get a good idea about the basics of cleansing and a lot more. You'll probably see examples of skincare advice for skin types similar to your own.

Sunscreen.

Exfoliation. If you don't already then start now. Start gently and work up. The more you do it, the more you see how shite your skin looks when you - in my case - miss even one day.

No cream or serum can work very well if it's simply soaking into dead/dry skin cells.

I think a lot of problems could be that you need to ensure you drink plenty of water throughout the day
Then book a facial somewhere (suggest Dermalogica/Decleor) and see how you go from there
There are so many different products out there and what suits one person will not necessarily suit another
It really is a case of finding out what works for you

I got a Neals yard voucher for Christmas I might look into booking a facial at one of their places or look at dermalogica

I just don't want to go somewhere we're I'll get a hard sell or be led down the make up route as I just don't use it.

I should also have mentioned that I'm covered in freckles! Not as bad as when I was little as they have faded a lot but they are still there!

They may well try to 'up-sell' as it's called, as 99% of employees these days are under pressure to do so. For the facial, as awkward as it might feel it would be a good idea to state from the outset in a bright and breezy manner that you are there for a facial and are not going to spend on products that day. You can still listen to any waffling about products they might do, and just nod and smile. Then at the end just say ''great, thanks for all the info, i've enjoyed my facial'' and go. It's fine to do that.

Lots of the suggestions here are so easy and basic to work into a daily routine and don't need to cost much at all. Yes to drinking plenty of water, moisturise daily with a cream which includes a sunscreen (factor 15 at least), basic facial scrub couple of times a week, and a serum if you want to try one.

Do your research online so you know what you want. Order online so you don't have to worry about being faced with a hard sell.

I think Clarins and Decleor are good and I have the Boots No7 serums too.

I like Vichy Neovadiol. It's for menopausal skin really but I've used it for a while. I tried something else briefly and very quickly went back to my "tired out" look. It's about the same price range as Boots No7 and I buy on 3 for 2 when I can.

Hi all, I thought I'd let you have an update. We are going away for the half term and have booked for a 30mins massage and 30mins facial at the place where we are staying whilst DH has the kids.

I have been doing a lot of reading online and today I ventured into the a local high street and tried a few things. I like the price and deals available with No. 7 but not massively keen on the smell. However I got the no. 7 hot cloth face wash, lip balm and triple action eye cream.

I then ventured into Space NK. I had never been in before but I found them very fair and suggested a few items and prices. I had read about some of the products and found that what I am attracted to is the smell. I have always been attracted to Aveda and Neals Yard because I like lovely smells on me (but not perfume) so am more driven by my nose than anything else!

After looking at a few things I ended up getting the Aurelia Cell Revitalise Day Moisturiser and the revitalise and glow serum. Apparently a little goes a long way so, even though expensive, it should last me a while. She also gave me samples from Ren, Algenist and Kiehls (the latter because I read about it and asked).

I have just used the hot towel cleanser and my face feels lovely and clean :) I'll start on the serum and creams tonight when I go to bed.

Do I do everything twice a day? I.e. When I go to bed and when I wake up?

Any tips on application of all this stuff? Apart from a face wash every day this is all alien to me!

Hi. They really ought to have made it clear regarding application/frequency. I don't use those products so, don't know. Do you still have the boxes or little info inserts that came with everything. If not, you could call in or given them a ring 😊

You don't need to do a hot cloth cleanser twice a day. Just do it at night. A lighter cleanser or wash or even just a splash of water will probably be fine in the morning, unless you're oily or really loading on the night cream.

You can't go too far wrong with Olay I've found.

My skin care is really simple and I get compliments on my skin. I use any gentle cream cleanser and remove it with a warm flannel. Then apply Boots Protect & Perfect Serum which I've used for years, I smooth it all over my face including eyes (I don't believe in separate eye creams). I allow it all to sink in while I brush my teeth, then finally apply moisturiser, again around my eyes too. I have my eyelashes tinted and permed and my teeth whitened so my face looks fairly alive, so for a daytime look I just add in a tinted lip balm and dot some concealer around my eyes and nose. I have tried all the high end ones, but my absolute favourite is the well cheapy Collection one. I also find that always wearing good perfume is a game changer too.

For aging, the gold standard is:

1. Using a high SPF at ALL times (50 SPF) the sun is the most ageing thing for skin, even if you dont burn, exposure to sun causes cell breakdown and wrinkles
2. Using a retinol product (this stimulates collagen)
3. Vitamin C serum (I like skinceuticals)

Agreed, I’m 43 and the things that have made the most difference to my skin are:
Retinol (now on Retin-A), SPF 50 every day all year round. Vitamin C serum in the morning.

You don’t actually need to spend much and any old moisturiser will do, it’s the other actives that are important.
