I'm curious ... Shellac removal

When I finally got round to going to the beauticians to get my shellac removed, she used cotton wool and foils which had clearly been used for quite a few other nails. Is this normal? It didn't feel too hygienic!

No not from my experience, they always use fresh foils etc whenever I have been Shock

PollysPoppy · 11/01/2017 19:56

So it was okat to cringe! Some cotton pads had pink, some had ble, there were sparkles. Eeeew!

Bloody Nora - cotton pads cost nothing - same for foil - yuck! You're not going back are you?

dementedpixie · 11/01/2017 20:02

I remove my own using cotton pads, acetone and foil. I've never paid to get mine removed

lorelairoryemily · 11/01/2017 20:03

That is disgusting, unhygienic and how infections spread, gross!!!

carrotcakecupcake · 11/01/2017 20:11

No - from my experience that is not normal! I either have them wrapped in fresh acetone soaked cotton and foul, or just dipped in a bowl of acetone. I most definitely would have cringed in your situation!!

ChicRock · 11/01/2017 20:11

Disgusting. Cotton wool costs pennies, I wonder what else they're doing to cut costs. Boak.

Don't go back,

PollysPoppy · 11/01/2017 20:54

It's my regular beautician and only the second time I've had shellac. The foils were clearly used many times before. I had to stop myself pulling my hands away! It is pretty gross, isn't it?

slyoldfox · 11/01/2017 21:10

That is disgusting! I wouldn't be going back. Grim.

Doje · 11/01/2017 21:12

Gross!

jelliebelly · 11/01/2017 21:22

Grim / and unhygienic too - would make me wonder what else she's reusing...

ToadsforJustice · 11/01/2017 21:26

That's cheap, disgusting and un-hygienic. How much is a bit of cotton wool, foil and remover? If she cuts corners on this, what else is she doing? Gross.

carrie74 · 11/01/2017 21:26

Nope never seen that before. You can do it yourself with acetone, cotton pads and tin foil very effectively.

JDSTER · 11/01/2017 21:31

Yuck! Fungal nail infections can be spread quite easily. As others have said, it's easy and cheap to remove your own. This salon doesn't deserve your custom.

PollysPoppy · 11/01/2017 21:35

Small town but yes, might try elsewhere. As you all say, the cotton wool and foil cost pennies. Shiver!

girlelephant · 11/01/2017 21:42

OMG that's so unhygienic! Never seen anything like that before.

I definitely would not go there for any treatments as they must be cutting other corners which is very unhygienic

Fluffycloudland77 · 11/01/2017 21:45

That's totally unacceptable. Removal isn't cheap if you use CND foils & nourishing remover but if you want to keep nails healthy it's just what you do isn't it?.

How much is your shellac?

PollysPoppy · 11/01/2017 22:18

Think the shellac was about £25 and then a few more to remove.

OP posts:
Fluffycloudland77 · 12/01/2017 06:44

Ok, so you're paying the right price. It's less likely to be fake shellac ie gel.

I would find another beauty therapist, lots work from home in converted rooms or in log cabins in the garden. It's not acceptable to have poor hygiene.

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 12/01/2017 07:25

She charged you to remove and then didn't even use fresh materials?! I know it's usual to charge, but even more outrageous given the recycling.
