Jeans - do you go cheap and replace regularly or invest in an expensive pair?

Previously I've bought cheap jeans - Dorothy Perkins/Mango/Topshop and replaced when they've worn out after a year or so.

But I have also bought Hilfiger/Diesel so high street but not say £200 for 7 for all mankind or brands like that. One pair has huge crease marks in and the other has gone into holes so I don't know if it's worth it.

I'm after some black skinny jeans - should I go cheap and replace regularly or go expensive and hope they last?

Which option have you found to be more economical? I live in jeans so they will be worn a lot.

yep, no comparison between topshop and dp jeans, the topshop are extremely good next to dp!

I only ever buy next lift & shape (£45), although I'm inspired to try others after this thread. Normal next ones don't compare but the lift & shape fit well, give a good shape and good colour.

I've had NYDJ in the past, liked them a lot, felt they held their shape well, but always had to pay to have them taken up. Then I found that the short/petite range in Evans (4 or 5 times cheaper) fit very well (am size 18). I always thought my legs were standard length but have realised that all trousers are now sold longer for fashion purposes (ie 31 not 29) so what with having to wear flat shoes mine usually end up rubbing on the floor.
I just went to look at these magical J Brand jeans but they only seem to go up to a 16. Hmm.
While we're on jeans, I read on here all the time that one shouldnt be wearing bootcut...but surely for a bigger person like me these are preferable to skinnies? I tried on a pair of high-waist skinnies in Dorothy Perkins and they felt lovely but I was on my own so had nobody to ask whether they looked ridiculous. There were certainly thenodd wrinkle at the knee and ankle and I didn't know if this was normal.
Anyway, will keep looking up these other brands and sorry for veering slightly off-topic.

I've had expensive (£90) jeans completely die on me by bagging at the knees within months, so I won't risk it again. I find Gap sizing tremendously variable, but once you've got a pair that fits they last really well, so I stick with them now.

I was given a pair of 7 for all Mankind jeans ages ago, the style was fab, lovely pockets too. But really wasn't impressed with the quality and they wore badly. I did love them though, but couldn't justify paying that money, they really weren't worth it.

I once had a pair of Sass and Bide jeans that were amazing and lasted a decade.

Can't afford posh jeans now so I wear Gap and M&S

My black M&S jeggings are amazing. And still really black and non-baggy after 18mths (although my cheaper grey pair, different design but also from M&S are really baggy - their quality is variable)

For black jeans that fade just get a black nylon dye and shove them through the wash with them, usually you can get them from Amazon for about four quid or something. Works the same on black tees or whatever that fade.

I'm limited by size availability (being on the generous side (putting it mildly!)), so tend to stick to Evans/Matalan etc - so glamorous!

DP has no such issues (being a 32"W 32"L) so I once splurged and got him a pair of Levi's. They were shocking. Wore through on the knee and back pocket within 6 months or so, and overall weren't really any better quality than the £12 ones he gets from the supermarket.

However, I picked up a pair of Wranglers for him in Matalan and they've been great. So I'd definitely go for the £35-ish price bracket again.
