Thoughts on tent dresses on size 16+

There've been lots of summer 'tent dresses' out over the last few years where I live. I bought a couple and my husband obviously thought I was joking when I said I was leaving the house in one. He immediately stopped when he realised I wasn't joking and is a husband who's never told me to lose weight, etc.
Do you know the type of dress? Always knee length, a popular brand is Adrift. Do you think they do fat girls a favour by hiding all rolls, or the opposite?
Thank you.

If you are an 'apple'' anything belted or empire line will not flatter.

BusterGonad · 09/01/2017 17:57

Apparently I'm a Goblet, so Susannah and Trinny say! I need to dress like Cathrine Zeta Jones!!!!

Thanks. I like all of those dresses - and SO cheap! $3.99 delivered?!? Infinity mentioned over 30 degrees, and I'm in inland Oz so it is actually over 30 for most of the time I'm wearing my tents.
The Hattie Jacques photo is spot on!
The new photos are great dresses for autumn and winter, I think, but I'll digest the points about the cut, wrap, etc.

Filledsoda and Claraschu - comfort is indeed important at 35 degrees. Plenty of people here still don't have any or decent aircon.
And I agree I would look very pregnant in anything that cuts in under the bust, such as empire line or belted.

That last comment was for Bejazzled.
And I've just seen the $3.99 was for delivery only.Blush Ha ha! I thought it was one of those cheap online shops like Wish! Blush

Op I'm in Qatar and it's VERY hot most of the time, jersey dresses like the dark wrap one are the best. I always wear them on holiday too to hot places like Thailand and Sri Lanka. They are just so easy to wear. I have 3 wrap jersey dresses, I bought them this year to place a previous 2 I'd worn to death. They are not super stylish, I mean I wouldn't really wear them on a night out in England but I would wear them to work and on holidays. With saying that styled up with the right ankle boots and a biker jacket they do look great. Either way you wouldn't look like Hatty! 😂

OK. Thanks. I'll go to the website and check them out.

Yep, I'm in Oz too, and it's bloody hot here in Sydney today. The thing is, a light cotton woven dress with lots of air is the coolest thing! But, it's true that those you have shown are not very flattering. I'm actually wearing a dress I made from this pattern, but sleeveless. It's really comfy, but also not too dowdy! I'm a 14, but I think you can see from the photos, that it really suits a larger size too (well, I think so).

FlorisApple · 10/01/2017 05:58

Oops, sorry, the photos didn't work. Here they are: They are from Seamwork magazine, if anyone wants the pattern.

I think loose dresses can look nice on someone size 16+, more like a loose shift. But tent dresses are horrible on everyone, just look so daft and try-hard.

ICJump · 10/01/2017 06:09

I have a similar one in orange which looks good when styled well. I love it for the hot months. It's from autograph.

For cotton dresses I think millers is good and has less tent dresses but you have to fight through miles of polyester. Blouses.

ICJump · 10/01/2017 06:11

This sort of thing would be nice www.millers.com.au/Red-White-Floral-Pintuck-Midi-Dress.aspx?p6686445&cr=2jw4__050948

ICJump · 10/01/2017 06:13

Or this would work for an apple www.millers.com.au/Embroidered-Tie-Waist-Dress.aspx?p6657923&cr=2jw4__051111

Floris - you're very clever making that! It shows me that plain fabric beats curtain patterns :)
Hermione - yes to loose shifts. Definitely wasn't trying hard though - not hard enough is probably more my problem!
ICJump - I love that red dress. Thanks.
