Non-granny nightie, also not lacy and short

You know how you can wear fancy silk pyjamas, not feel like an old granny, maybe even feel a bit glamorous, but put a dressing gown on, go downstairs and have a cup of tea with your FIL without feeling embarrassed?

I want that but with a nightie if that makes sense! Not grandmas flannelette nightie and not sex kitten lace down to your waist and really short. I want a long nightie but not slit up to the hip. I want it to be nice but not twee, sexy but not revealing.

Is this possible? I have a cotton cyberjammies one from John Lewis but it's a bit floral. I'm quite busty so most with a seam directly under the bra line don't work as boobs too big and with no bra that's a recipe for disaster Grin

Ideas welcomed!

I've just got this one which I am more excited about than I should be - no cartoon characters! Took the stupid, unnecessary button off the pocket though.

Lands End!

A year or two ago Primark had a fab floor length jersey one with wide straps. I wish I'd bulk bought

i would try oysho, the nighties they sell sound exactly like your description!

from oysho:
(would still layer dressing gown over if FIL called though!)

I find your thinking flawed on two counts. Firstly, it's perfectly possible to be a granny - yes, even an old one - and look glamorous. Secondly, no nightdress on the planet would pass the father-in-law test unless you're going to wear underwear too. The clue is in the name. If I were in your shoes, I would look for a vintage men's silk dressing gown then wear whatever I liked underneath.

I wish I could explain - maybe I'll draw a picture, maybe make one...

T shirt ones are no no for me- I never wear them in the day either- they make me look blobby.

This kind of thing. Stylish but still suitable for father-in-laws, meter readers and friends of teenage sons. Handy for Jeeves & Wooster auditions too. I recommend vintage as more likely to be silk instead of slimy polyester. Flock wallpaper optional.

Right I've bought a long one from Otsho - looks nice - never heard of them before.

The FIL test is more a notional one than a real one really.
