Short hair in your 40s? Advice welcomed!

A bit of background, I currently have fine, just-above-the-shoulder hair in a bob style. I look after my hair and have it cut regularly but just lately it seems a bit frizzy and flyaway.
Was watching some home videos with the family last night in which I had short hair. It looked really nice and it started me thinking would it be a good idea to chop it off and start again! Although, I was obviously 15+ years younger so am worried that my 45+ hair wouldn't look that good!
Any advice welcomed Smile

I turned 40 last year. My hair was fine (but lots of it), greying and in a boring bob. I took a picture of Michelle Williams with very short blonde hair to my hairdresser and asked her to create similar for me. I now have a lovely pixie cut.
It's honestly the best thing I did. I've never had so many compliments on my hair. The condition is improved and it takes me no time to style. I wash 2-3 times a week.

You guys are inspiring me. I've just turned 49 and my probably 85/90% grey hair for years! I now have it dyed monthly and it's such a chore. I want to embrace grey but without the long and horrible grow out period. I'm going to investigate the pixie cut. Thanks Smile

I've spent 2 years growing my hair from a pixie to a bob and thus growing out my dyed hair. I hated having longer hair and decided to cut my hair short again. My face just suits shorter hair, I'm late 40's. I also really wanted to embrace my grey hair so out came the clippers. I now have an amazing short pixie which is brilliant white/steel grey and silver. I just love the tonal colours I'm left with. The white hair really does brighten my complexion. I love it.

I'm 46 and have short hair. I'm fortunate that I have hardly any grey and I don't dye it (my mother went grey late and has short fabulous salt and pepper hair in her 70s so I have genetics on my side). I'm also petite which according to the last thread about this helps Hmm. I think grey hair cut in a good short hairstyle in your 40s looks much sharper than a home dye job on thinning hair and would always recommend it for someone who has a good hair dresser. Worst case you can always grow it back.

I am most definitely NOT petite at 5'10 and size 18 but have gone shorter and shorter since turning 50. I now have a similar cut to Jamie Lee Curtis and definitely look better than I did with a blonde bob (Think Wendolene from Wallace and Grommit).

I haven't yet embraced the grey but have a professional dye job. It takes 30 seconds in the morning. It's a revelation. I'd never go back to long.

I'm 45, and love my short, grey hair. It has to be cut very regularly (5/6 weeks) but it's so easy otherwise I'd never go back to dying or longer hair.
I'm average of look and stature.

Hi, I'm 44 with really dark hair, almost black and mine's really short, kind of like Frankie from The Saturdays when she was on Strictly a few years back..shaved at the back and sides and kind of swept across at the front. I've had it like this for about 15 years now and love it this way..the only problem is that mine grows super quickly and every millimetre shows so I have to have it cut every 4 weeks so it is pricey to maintain...
