Exercise clothes

SexNamesRFab · 01/01/2017 13:34

I've signed the whole family up to a gym and need some exercise clothes to keep me motivated.

I need everything - a new sports bra, trainers, tank tops, gym trousers (what do these even look like?? I can't wear just tights FFS) and a rucksack.

Where do I start? I don't wear a lot of black, prefer bright spring colours instead (coral, bright navy, turquoise). I'm a wobbly 12-14.

This thread is a little old now, so why not check out our round-up of the gym wear Mumsnetters recommend for something a little more up-to-date. MNHQ.

I'm in the Us and buy champion at target. It's great. I have seen some pieces in tesco when in the U.K.

KittyandTeal · 02/01/2017 15:25

I love the Lorna Jane stuff. Very good quality stuff but less off in the sale than Nike.

Nike sale makes up the bulk of my kit, sweaty Betty and Lorna Jane are my 'treat' bits

StiffenedPleat · 02/01/2017 15:35

Souluxe from Matalan is excellent. But I wouldn't buy their shoes or bras.

user1471441955 · 02/01/2017 15:38

I have some Nike leggings and a pair if gap fit ones- but when I try and run in them they both fall down. Is there a good brand that can stay put over a mum tum?

TheCakes · 02/01/2017 15:41

Yep, another vote for Nike leggings. I have four pairs!
I have discovered some decent bras on Amazon which are as good as Shock Absorber, but half the price. I'm 34F so need decent support. Let me find out what the brand is...

TheCakes · 02/01/2017 15:43

Syrokan. That's what they are called.

KittyandTeal · 02/01/2017 15:49

User I find the Nike epic fit or the legendary Ines are best. Epic have a draw string so great for a small waist but big bum and the legendary is really high with core support.

The basic dry fit ones fall down on me too.

alc3254 · 02/01/2017 17:32

Nike dri-fit caprice leggings, a good trainer and sports bra. Cheap and cheerful t-shirts/veat tops. Invest more when you commit more time. Whatever you wear you need to feel confident. Don't forget a small towel and large water bottle. Good luck!

cauliflowercheese14 · 02/01/2017 20:26

I've had some plain cotton Nike leggings for 15 years now, great value for money. I use them for Pilates. Running stuff all from tkmaxx except sports bras from m&s via eBay, but proper ££££ running shoes.

Thepurplehen · 02/01/2017 20:42

I like primark and mountain warehouse. Mountain warehouse regularly have sales and the quality is v good.

Agree about boobs and feet. Get decent bras and shoes, nothing else matters too much.

slinkysaluki · 03/01/2017 09:41

Sportsshoes.com is very reasonable and Prodirect. I just bought a pair of Saloman trail shoes from.Sports Direct for 25 quid in the sale, bargain.

IDismyname · 03/01/2017 10:26

If you decide you're going to stick with the programme, then I would recommend Sweaty Betty. Sign up for their marketing emails and make the most of their sales.

Their stuff is very very good. Washes very well and the bottoms always stay up.

However, on the back of this thread, I'm going to check out Nike, too!

user1471441955 · 03/01/2017 13:22

KittyandTeal- thanks for the tips- I have ordered some Nike epic fit- hopefully they will stay put.

singleandfabulous · 03/01/2017 13:27

Victoria's Secret Pink in the sale! I got some great workout kit from there in December. Fantastic ladder back vest top and great bra (orange with a touch of black and white). Pale grey hoody too.

Love Sweaty Betty but very pricey. Again, worth a look in the sale.

I find NIKE very tight on the waist and loose on the legs. Very hot too (in the none-sexual sense). Grin

ShutTheFuckUpBarbara · 03/01/2017 13:36

I use a mix of cheapo and more expensive stuff.

My all-purpose trainers are mid-range Nike and I have Adidas lifting shoes.

I get cheap, colourful bras and capris from Sports Direct or similar (I like USA Pro bottoms, they come up quite high on the waist and stay up during squats). I don't spend a right lot on bras as I have smallish books and only do low impact.

I have a few outfits from Fabletics, some of them I have had for 2 years, and worn regularly, and they haven't budged.

ShutTheFuckUpBarbara · 03/01/2017 13:37

*boobs not books ffs

mrsmortis · 03/01/2017 14:12

Shhh - don't tell anyone, at least not until I've bought loads, but Sweaty Betty have a sale on!

Pippioddstocking · 03/01/2017 14:25

I exercise daily and have done for years , good kit that will last is a must .
The shops that I've got things from that have lasted ,have washed the best , kept their shape etc are sports direct and sports shoes.com. Also George at Asda do some great stuff that is still going strong years later .
I'm going against the other posters here and saying that I don't rate Sweaty Betty. I don't find the materials wick sweat so well and the smells starts to build up over time despite using sodium bicarbonate / halo wash etc.
H and m do the nicest looking stuff but I find the fabrics feel heavy.
Maybe I'm just hard on my gear , trailing running, gym, weights.
Best leggings though I would say are addidas.

Faries · 03/01/2017 14:29

I'm after some exercise leggings with zipper pockets on the side. Does anyone know where I could buy some in the UK?

mrsmortis · 03/01/2017 14:29

Oh and another vote here for the ShockAbsorber bra. I'm a 36F and they are the only thing I'll run in. And their swimsuits are great too if you are going to be doing aqua or something similar.

BusterTheBulldog · 03/01/2017 14:43

New look are surprisingly good for workouts stuff-I also have a big bum and thighs and small waist-and they do stay up and crucially also are not see through!

Agree on Nike too, have some ancient addias 3 stripe leggings too which havehad for years and are still going strong!

CallarMorvern · 03/01/2017 14:43

Asda leggings, I have 2 pairs of ¾ ones, they have quite a wide waistband so stay up really well ( I'm a bit of an hourglass) and they are a nice weight. Tried some on in Primark last week and they were way too thin, but I did get a nice long hooded top from there, it has thumbholes too - I love thumbholes, but normally my arms are too long for them. .

slinkysaluki · 03/01/2017 19:58

Just looked on Sweaty Betty, even I. The sale the price of the stuff is steep. Too expensive to sweat in Hmm

Newbrummie · 03/01/2017 20:27

SB isn't normal ... I bought an amazing tennis dress in the sale but only because I've been looking for one for like 20 years in that style, built in knickers. Bought 2 ☺️
