What are yours?

Agree with other posters about actually wearing everything that's in the wardrobe and not saving for best - definitely one of my problems, I save all the nice clothes for a mythical occasion and end up wearing the same slobby rubbish which makes me feel horrible.
Also - get new underwear! Without holes in!!
Get my hair cut more than once a year. Try to style it rather than pulling into ponytail.

RemusLupinsChristmasMovie · 02/01/2017 16:18

One of my resolutions ticked off today, as I managed to finally find a black jersey dress that I like and could afford! Grin

Now I need to paint my nails...

RemusLupinsChristmasMovie · 02/01/2017 16:19

Re casual clothes:

Last year I finally branched out into something other than skinny jeans. For Spring/Summer I bought some chinos, to wear rolled up slightly with sandals or Converse, and for Autumn/Winter I got some skinny combat trousers to wear with ankle boots or Converse. It's nothing ground breaking at all, but it was nice to wear something that wasn't black skinnies, for a change!

mumobsessedwithdamp · 02/01/2017 16:21

Remus - please share details of the black jersey dress!

I'm quite good these days at returning anything that would be a mistake, so not much around that.

Need to plug some gaps in my wardrobe and what I buy should fit this rather than random stuff.

Keep using the gym during and after work hours, it is so nice to do

RemusLupinsChristmasMovie · 02/01/2017 16:27

Black dress

Nothing v exciting but it fits well and feels nice. Will need a cami under it, or a strategically placed safety pin, as I don't 'do' cleavage!

DameDoom · 02/01/2017 17:00

Nice dress Remus you will get a lot of wear out of that. Get some press studs to hide cleavage malfunctions - I press stud the shiz out of anything that might reveal too much and it alleviates the agony of safety-pinning your boob.

Teaistheanswer · 02/01/2017 17:47

I definitely agree with the not saving for best. I do this all the time which just means items go out of fashion before I've even worn them twice. I don't know where I think the hectic social life is going to come from that I need to keep things for best?! My teenage DD wears everything in her wardrobe whenever she feels like it and always looks great, I think I should follow her example Smile

Kelsoooo · 02/01/2017 17:58

Can I recommend Mrs Gloss and Goss on Facebook for all of you?

it's makeup and skincare based mainly, but loads of fashion advice.

It's such a positive place with loads of tips and advise from all types of women. really friendly too.

mine this year:

find a hairdresser I like.
keep up with my nails, every three weeks.
sort my eyebrows out
sort my skin out.

MrsGuyOfGisbo · 02/01/2017 18:03

Eat more protein- I started this last year and haven't had one cold.
This is really interesting! This year I have eaten protein mainly, and carbs only if I am doing a lot of exercise.
I am doing a job ( teaching at lots of schools) where encounter millions of germy kids/ germy keyboards/ill people (teachers struggle into work when sick)/public transport but... haven't had any illness, even a cold , even though DH and my DC have. Assumed was just lucky - but is this a known protein thing?

Floisme · 02/01/2017 18:04

Yay at finding your black dress, Remus. And very nice it is too. Great start to the year.

I'm terrible at 'saving for best'. It was drummed into me as a kid and I just can't break out. I'm doing some wardrobe recycling at the moment (resolution no.2) and I've just found some white patent brogues that I bought in a vintage shop the first time I went to New York. That was 25 years ago. I was scared of scuffing them so I put them away 'somewhere safe'. I need help.

At least they still fit!

RemusLupinsChristmasMovie · 02/01/2017 19:01

Hope you enjoy wearing your 'new' brogues, Flo. Grin

Teaistheanswer · 02/01/2017 19:02

That's just like me Floisme I hate the thought of things I really like getting damaged!
Have thought a bit more about my own list and have added:

Not to keep buying loads of different shampoos, conditioners and the latest styling product when seduced by the advertising Blush i need to accept that I have fine hair and I am in my 40s! Also ditching the almost daily straightening might have more of an effect Grin

Floisme · 02/01/2017 19:26

Thank you Grin They've still got the price tag on ..... 10 dollars.
Still that's my summer shoes shoes shorted.

thiswayplease · 02/01/2017 19:38

Last year I resolved to only buy key items of clothing but quality and classic items that won't date, creating a capsule wardrobe. I've managed to stick to it and it's worked well for my work wardrobe but I'm still struggling for weekend wardrobe.

I'm going to use up all my existing make up and not buy anymore until I run out- Mrs Gloss and All the Goss has a lot to answer for!

I'm going to drink more water, eat more veg and exercise more.

I will save at least £50 a month and not dip into it

AteRiri · 02/01/2017 20:00

Lose weight
Not buy too many trendy items
Sleep on every purchase

RebelandaStunner · 02/01/2017 22:40

MrsGuy
protein - for healthy immune system, fights bacteria/viruses. I was sick of getting colds so googled it and so far so good Smile

Remus where did you get your chinos from please?

pughpughbarneymcgrue · 02/01/2017 22:54

What is S&B shopping?

Some inspiring resolutions here. How does everybody count their steps? With a FitBit, presumably?

AmberNectarine · 02/01/2017 23:08

Looks like I'll be moving house soon. Nothing I don't LOVE will be moving with me to my beautiful new dressing room! That means some serious wardrobe pruning.

KeyserSophie · 03/01/2017 05:22
  • One in, one out wardrobe policy
  • Drink 2L plain water a day
  • Shanghai/Shellaq pedicure every 4 weeks, plus polishless manicure
  • Limit online shopping to stuff I 100% know will fit (jeans and bags basically). I'm slack with returns and it's expensive and wasteful
  • This one's a bit waffly but hope I make sense: shop for what I wear, rather than what another version of me would wear. Basically I wear skinnies (i can wear jeans for work so I get really good use out of a good pair of jeans) and flats, with vests and shell tops, accessoriesed with scarves or pendent necklaces. I look good like that. I need to stop buying blouses/ shirts which I dont wear and random shit like curator pants and wide leg trouser than really need the heels I no longer wear on a day to day basis, as I walk a lot.

It's expensive but I'm currently doing the Precision Nutrition coaching course- it's based around adding a new habit every 2 weeks. I've found it very effective. A lot of people do it to lose weight but I just did it to improve diet quality.

Switch to bar shampoo and soap to reduce plastic.

SageYourResoluteOracle · 03/01/2017 06:12

2+ litres of water daily. I'm usually really good about this but due to it being winter, me being out of routine for the last few weeks and not excercising as much as usual due to a running injury, I've not being drinking nearly enough and I don't feel brilliant right now.

Clean up my sleep routine and be way stricter about screen time in the evenings.

Lose the final 10lb I've being trying to shift by being stricter with use of My Fitness Pal and taking on board what my PT suggests, especially now I've cut to 2 sessions per month rather than 2 per week as I did all last year.

Foam roll and do the stretches the physio gave me to sort my injury. Sounds simple but I've just not factored these into my daily routine.

Resume acid peeling alternating week about with needle rollering on an area of scarring.

All-over body moisturise more frequently... legs in danger of developing scales!

Continue to regularly put to charity clothes and shoes that I don't wear.

Do Dry January.

Attempt a clothes-buying embargo with the exception of underwear, hosiery and a dress that I'll need for two weddings this summer. 2 completely different sets of people so I can get away with one dress!

Do nails more often. They're neat but I do like a jazzy varnish....

Happy new year everyone.

Floisme · 03/01/2017 07:15

Amber all these clothes you're going to prune - if you take them to a charity shop please will you tip us off? I might take a holiday there Wink (And more 2nd hand is resolution no.3) Good luck with the move.

OldJoseph · 03/01/2017 08:24

I'm not going to buy any make up this year unless I run out of something (unlikely). I wear it every day so I will be interested to see just how much I use in a year.

Clothes will be purchased on pay day only, if the cc allows.

Before online shopping I owned very few clothes, I did go shopping but most clothes seemed very expensive (again this is before supermarkets started selling clothes and shops like Primark) and poorly fitting.

I've really enjoyed filling out my wardrobe using, mostly, MN recommendations, I would have never heard of Uniqlo for example if it hadn't been recommended on here. 2016 has been the first year I can remember where I haven't worried about what I am going to wear to anything. Since my wardrobe is now pretty full I hope to slow down my clothes buying habit.

knowler · 03/01/2017 11:41

Lose weight by increasing fruit and veg intake and cutting out massive cheesy/bready snacks. Also signed up for couch to 5k (did it about 15 months ago and got up to 10k last May but have barely run since then Blush)

Clothes-wise, I'm concentrating on good quality items that will last like a great pair of casual boots, a new coat, timeless/classy tops.

Will also re-start painting my nails, getting my eyebrows done regularly and - inspired by another thread - wearing lippie on a daily basis during the week.
