I'd love some really nice bedlinen but where will I find it?

Have a lovely set from Sheridan - high thread count, sateen cotton, washes beautifully. I'd buy again but I dont want identical to what I have. Can't find subtle colours in a cotton sateen which I love. White Company - nah! Creases terribly and havent found it to be a touch on Sheridan. Where else can I try? Ta.

White Company sale!

We always buy at least 3 sets from there every January - well worth it. I have just received 4 feather and down duvets - they are sublime. I am waiting for the bedlinen I ordered to go with them. I baulk at their prices normally (even though they're not very expensive compared to others), but their sales are a real bargain.

mowglik · 29/12/2016 23:19

We have Sheridan and Christie is about the same in terms of luxurious feel. Also like Dorma, very sumptuous designs but not quite as soft and silky as Sheridan or christie

PollysPoppy · 29/12/2016 23:49

Wow! Loads of suggestions - thank you! Part of my dithering is down to colour .... do I go for another white set which seems to give me more choice for the real luxury feel or should I introduce some colour as a change from the white .... but what colour (very neutral room in creams) but then patterned sets don't seem to equal white on thread count and that lovely sateen finish. Hmmmm. Will do some browsing in the morning!

I went a bit mad a few years ago and bought loads of vintage linen on eBay. I love it, although the ironing is a chore - I save it until there is something on the radio I want to listen too. Quite often the linen has never been used, a bit sad to think of it being kept for best all those years, sometimes there are names on it,presumably for a laundry, some of it has the wartime utility mark so I know how old it is, though some I suspect is even older. All of it is funny sizes , clearly beds are different these days, but I love using it, and it is supremely comfortable, and the quality is fantastic, I would never be able to afford such great stuff if I was buying it brand new.

I have stopped buying it now, I still have the odd look on eBay, but keep my twitching buying fingers under control because I have enough to last me a lifetime and provide my winding sheets!

FannyWincham · 30/12/2016 01:18

Pollys since getting into properly nice bedding I only ever buy white. Everything matches everything else and can be washed together. There's just something about crisp white bedding.

Please can you give an example of the kind of thing you mean on eBay? Sounds really interesting.

Incidentally I bought some lovely 300 thread count fitted sheets from TKMaxx a few years ago. They are so, so soft, but also really bobbled. Don't know if that is a feature of bedding with a high thread count?

Fluffycloudland77 · 30/12/2016 07:36

We use just linen and tk maxx.

High thread count sheets shouldn't bobble.

KarlosKKrinkelbeim · 30/12/2016 07:39

Just ordered some in the toast sake - being delivered today. Will report back!

Liiinoo · 30/12/2016 08:23

I love colourful, cotton bed linen. Too many companies just seem to do various shades of white/cream/ecru. Try Zara Home. I bought some stuff in their sale in the summer and was very impressed with the feel and quality. I am currently in bed under a lovely leopard print duvet cover from there. My DDs hate it but me and DH like it.

1980sChick · 30/12/2016 08:27

Ii came on to say boundary mill for sheridan is vastly cheaper than usual, but the best set I currently own is from next from their luxurious range, white with a silver grey trim. never needs ironing and is the hotel quality id been looking for for ages, the whole double set cost around £90 though but so glad I bought it.

MsStricty · 30/12/2016 09:22

I found this site yesterday, OP. Some of the sets are v v expensive (Roberto Cavalli, e.g.), but it was the only site that really interested me, and I looked through loads (Next, JL, M&S, Ted Baker, Debs, HofF, etc.)

If I'd had my way (and the budget) - ahhhhh!

I'd love some really nice bedlinen but where will I find it?
GeorgeTheThird · 30/12/2016 09:32

I'm just returning some from Soak and Sleep - 200 thread count cotton pintucks but somehow seems really cheap looking.

FannyWincham · 30/12/2016 10:32

oxcat Good quality stuff shouldn't bobble. 300 thread count isn't that high - maybe try a 600.

hooliodancer · 30/12/2016 10:35

King of Cotton has amazing quality cotton Steven..

I also have been very impressed with Soak and Sleep French linen ( I know this isn't what you are looking for but it's lovely)

I think White Company stuff really lasts, but it's expensive compared to the other two, so probably won't buy from there again.

BestIsWest · 30/12/2016 10:47

Have some 800 thread stuff from HOuse of Fraser which has bobbled and we've only had it a few months.

ScrambledSmegs · 30/12/2016 11:17

I can't stand the feeling of sateen sheets so I always buy percale, and have never had any bobbling issues even with the cheapest stuff. Maybe Sheridan sateen is better quality than most?

We've currently got this lightly patterned duvet & pillowcase set, with some white percale fitted sheets. It may not be the highest thread count, however it is the perfect balance of cool and crisp / soft and smooth for us.

Fiona2609 · 30/12/2016 14:19

I bought some linen bedding before Christmas from Ada and Ina.
I have just ordered some more, it is gorgeous.

MemorySoup · 30/12/2016 14:41

Oh another vote for The White Company - and some great bargains in their sale at the moment www.thewhitecompany.com/

If you put a search into eBay with something like vintage bed linen you will get lots of ideas. I discount the French embroidered stuff because it costs a fortune! lots of sellers seem to buy from house sales and auctions. Nearly all the stuff I bought was in beautifully clean condition, either brand new or extremely well laundered, I only had one piece which had an odd stain which I contacted the seller about, she was hugely apologetic, she had brought a job lot and admitted she had not double checked them all before posting. I must admit to a weakness for Irish linen pillowslips, often embroidered with shamrocks and other flowers, I think they must have been traditional trousseau stuff . Some of mine even have handmade cloth buttons.

PollysPoppy · 30/12/2016 17:57

Definitely not the White Company - have been so disappointed in both sets we've bought from there. Am working my way through House of Fraser's offerings but one white set is blending into the next so time fir a break and a pre-dinner gin! Grin

I buy all of my bedding from TK maxx - you can get some real good quality/ high thread count stuff highly discounted. Also Zara Home has some pretty stuff and IKEA's high thread count ranges are really hard wearing.

5OBalesofHay · 30/12/2016 18:06

I have 7 sets of 600 threadcount white from Debenhams for our bed. Had them for years and they are still lovely. They come back from the laundry like New.

FizzyFeet · 30/12/2016 18:11

I like Feather and Black bed linen. Have a couple of sets from there - lovely duvet covers and pillowcases but for some reason the sheets are a bit variable in quality.

missmartha · 30/12/2016 18:16

The Natural Bed Company do some lovely bedding.
