Too many black/grey clothes, really need some colour in my life!

I've been through my wardrobe & got rid of quite a bit of old unworn items. When I look at it now it's pretty much all black, grey & navy. I seem to be drawn to buying things in those colours but having tried on a couple of coloured tops in Oasis yesterday it made me realise those colours are doing nothing for me at all, in fact they make me look really tired & pale.

I had my colours dome years ago
& was told I was an Autumn. Some of those colours I like but they tend to be the more dull ones khaki, browns etc. One of my colours is a kind of mustard yellow but when I've tried it on it makes my skin look yellow!

I really want to buy a few bits
of colour in the sales to improve my depressing wardrobe but it's almost like I'm afraid to wear brighter colours. One of my colours is tomato red & it really suits me & livens me up but I feel self conscious wearing it.

Does anyone have any advice please?

I don't always wear grey. Sometimes I wear charcoal or light black. I tried to wear colour but as a soft/muted summer, I looked like a clown.

I'm also an autumn and yellow looks horrible on me.

I think I'm a "deep" Autumn, i try to steer clear of black/greys (although charcoal seems to be ok) and stick to navy and brown (although very little in the shops at the moment). I then add colours like red, burgundy, purple, dark green and teal. I also wear cream/camel when the weather is warmer.

My shoes/bags are brown/tan/wine coloured

This is me. 99% of my daily wardrobe is black or - a small percentage - white.

A couple more things that helped me get off the black: Buying black based prints but wearing with stuff that picked out one of the other colours. And coloured cardis - I had masses of them. I liked cropped length as they didn't spoil the line of a dress.

I don't do either of those very much now but they def helped ease me out of it.

And choosing your own version of black. Mine is plum - it's my 'safe' colour, still pretty versatile and reasonably easy to find in the shops but, unlike black, it actually makes me look good. Maybe khaki would work for you?

I don't share the scarf love on here - I find them too faffy and they make my jowls look massive. I'd rather just wear a colour that suits me in the first place. Happy Christmas to everyone Wine

Nothing wrong with black, navy and grey.

You can always get your nails done in bright colours

I have more than 90% neutral colours - navy, grey, khaki, white, camel and black. I think they are more classic.
I think I would be classed as a light summer. I don't mind a bit of periwinkle, heather pink or scarlet red, but that's about it for colours. No pastels either.

The "how to look expensive" threads on here suggest you SHOULD have a muted pallette!

You can also get away with spending less.

There's nothing wrong with grey and black. I'm an autumn but feel like when I wear autumn colours, I look like I'm going to self combust - far too warm. So I wear a lot of pale grey which actually is in the autumn colour palette strangely. If I wear black on my top, I need a lot of bronze but can still wear it.
Interestingly, there's a girl at work who is usually stunning in black sheath dresses and electric blue who has started wearing her colours in autumn and looks dreadful - she's all sludge khaki and moss green and terracotta and looks not as well put together as when she was wearing chic black.

There's nothing wrong with grey and black except the op has said they don't suit her and that she would like to change. Seems a bit unhelpful to come on and basically tell her she's wrong.
But I'm not surprised cos I remember getting very negative reactions when I gave up black. Some people seemed to take it as personal criticism. In the end I gave up talking about it and didn't even say anything when the same naysayers started telling me how well I looked, which I thought was rather heroic of me Grin
