Can anyone help me makeup my very deep-set eyes?

I have always struggled greatly to know how to makeup my eyes. They're a very prominent feature: large, round, heavily lidded and set deep in my eye-socket. I've attached a makeup-free pic.

On other women, I love feline, smoky eyes. Unfortunately eyeshadow tends to make me look as though I have been punched, and winged liner just disappears into the crease. As a result, I tend to wear just a tightliner and mascara.

Can anyone help? I so, so want lovely eye makeup!

Thanks in advance....

You tube has tutorials for make up on all kinds of eyes.

You have beautiful eye, oyster.

My eyes are similar to yours, but I have a more defined socket on one side than on the other, so I have to even them out if I'm going out/wearing eye makeup. Generally, you darken the bits you want to recede/deepen and highlight the bits you want to bring forward. So on a person without a defined socket (the opposite to you), they would put dark shadow in their 'crease'(the socket curve) to deepen it visually. You already have a gorgeous deep, defined socket, so you don't need to do that. YouTube search 'make up for round eyes'.

My eyes tend to look best with a simple wash of colour (or smudgy eyeliner blended out) and curled, mascara'd eyelashes. The curling/mascara are the big thing for me. Game changer. Mascara has to waterproof or the curl wont hold.

Thanks very much for these responses. Have had a quick look on pinterest, whiteskyler and got a few ideas to try when I get home. Will also have another look at YouTube.

Thanks for your kind words and advice, Frick. Interesting what you say about simple looks suiting you best. This seems to be the case for me too. Have always assumed this is due to my makeup-incompetence but maybe less is actually more for our eye shape? Mascara also makes a HUGE difference for me. It's the makeup product I could not live without. I'm going to follow your advice about curling and fixing with a waterproof mascara, and in the New Year I might get a lash treatment - either LVL or falsies.

It might also be helpful to see how celebrities with your eye shape do their eye makeup - your eyes (eye!) reminded me of natascha mcelhone, might be worth looking up a few pics.

My eyes are also deep set and I find the same as frick, smudgey eyeliner and a bit of gold in the centre of the eyelid and blended out looks best on me

LittleOyster · 14/12/2016 20:47

Thanks mowglik, I did as you suggested and Googled Natascha Mcelhone, also Kristin Scott Thomas as I think my eyes are quite similar to hers. The makeup looks were quite subtle and blended - no hard edges or dramatic effects, but lots of lashes. Noticed quite a lot of gold colours too.

Have been practicing this evening using the tips given here, as well as the stuff I've mined from pinterest. Thanks all.

I have deep-set eyes that are quite small and not particularly pretty. Winged liner does not work, my crease is pretty defined, and pale shimmery colors and dark liner work best.

LittleOyster · 14/12/2016 23:16

Thanks, Euphemia. I think doing eyeshadow as the woman in the video does (ie above the socket line, on the brow bone) is the way forward.

Agreed Frustrated - winged liner doesn't work...

Hi Oyster. My eyes are similar to yours. They are not deep set, quite the opposite, they are protruding. Meaning the whole lid is visible. Deep set eyes have little or nothing of the lid showing. If you want to emphasize the protrusion, paint lid in light colors, if you want to put it in background, use darker shades.
