£1000 leather trousers

I couldn't see a thread already, so apologies if this is a duplicate, but can we talk about the PM's leather trousers?

Firstly, how do you actually wear leather trousers without getting sweaty and sticky? (Or is that something that only happens with not real leather?)

Secondly, I can understand that they get softer and more comfortable as they are worn in, like jeans, but surely unless you wear them everyday by the time they are properly broken in they are a bit dated?

Thirdly, it is a lot of money on a pair of trews, isn't it?

They are horrible but they likely cost less than one of Call Me Dave's suits. I don't normally care what pm's look like but in the interests of Style and Beauty, I think she needs to invest in a better hair style.

AmeliaJack · 13/12/2016 16:23

This kind of thing makes me so frustrated.

I don't have much affection for Theresa May and I'm pretty sure our political views are widely divergent but why are we, as women, buying into this nonesense that how much she spends on a garment is relevant for discussion.

She personally earns over £143k. Her husband is a senior exec for an investment fund so his salary will, I imagine, be considerably higher.

Is anyone really expecting to see her dressed from M&S?

She can spend her money on what she likes it's irrelevant to her job.

Of course she can spend her money on what she likes .... And let them eat cake !
If she was earning £143,000 and it wasn't coming from the public purse she could do what she likes with it

neveradullmoment99 · 13/12/2016 17:25

Its obscene. She is obscene. She is a disgrace wearing them. She is flaunting her riches. Its a disgrace. We have food banks ffs.

neveradullmoment99 · 13/12/2016 17:26

One question to the comment above. You have said, if it isnt coming out of the public purse then let her spend her riches. Who pays her then? Where does the money come from?

VeryPunny · 13/12/2016 17:28

neveradullmoment99 I'm paid, albeit indirectly, from the public purse. Should I return my leather trousers and clothe myself in sackcloth and ashes instead?

neveradullmoment99 · 13/12/2016 17:32

She is a public figure. You are not. Its NOT the same.

Fuzzypeggy · 13/12/2016 17:33

Her salary is her own and not very much for such a job as pm. Directors in private firms get 10 times that or more. She can spend her salary on what she wants, even though it's public funded. Anyone has the choice what to spend their salary on regardless of where it comes from. Just because it's public funded doesn't mean we get a say.

Fuzzypeggy · 13/12/2016 17:34

We can criticise her all we want for her budget and what she spends out taxes on. Not her own salary.

Newbrummie · 13/12/2016 17:36

We don't get a say, just as we don't get to comment on benefits going on booze and fags and tv's ... Oh wait a minute we do, regularly, the poor get conned most Christmas' into giving an interview so we can all tut at their poor taste in decor and games consoles ... So Mrs May you are fair game too

Fuzzypeggy · 13/12/2016 17:37

not to mention how sexist this all is. It's only becuaiae she's a woman. A comment up thread says that they "don't normally care what pms look like but she needs a better hair cut". Ffs that person shouldn't care in this case either but they do because he is a woman and she enjoys fashion

neveradullmoment99 · 13/12/2016 17:38

People who are PM should not be paid highly. In my opinion that is what is wrong with the government.Capitalism at its best. They lose sight of reality. People in the government should be their to make society better. Not driven by pay or money in any way. Make it a poor pay. Make it an ambition to help others. Not become a career politician. Enough said now.

Newbrummie · 13/12/2016 17:38

No id critise a male wearing a grand on his Arse too and I've no doubt Cameron spent more, he's a tit too

Fuzzypeggy · 13/12/2016 17:39

She's not paid highly though. No way is running the sountry just worth 150k. She could get a job as the CEO said nowhere else and get paid loads more than that

Fuzzypeggy · 13/12/2016 17:41

Somewhere else I meant obvs

Newbrummie · 13/12/2016 17:54

I'd pay them nothing and make it a voluntary job in an ideal word bit then you'd get the opposite problem that the mhairi blacks of the world couldn't afford to be an mp. It should be maybe the average income times 2 with no other perks then maybe it would attract a differently motivated person

Floisme · 13/12/2016 17:55

Where should she shop then?
The high street with their ethical record? Primark?
Or how about Mango and Benetton who by all accounts had to be dragged, kicking and screaming to pay up after Rana Plaza?
A lot of people have little or no choice but to buy cheap clothes but I cannot see anything virtuous about the Prime Minister doing it.

Newbrummie · 13/12/2016 17:56

We could issue her with a uniform 😁

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 13/12/2016 17:56

I meant she should spend on her hair, why is that sexist? We are talking about her style and what she spends on, she clearly is into fashion too. I also mentioned David Cameron and his suits so sex wasn't irrelevant.

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 13/12/2016 17:57

*relevant

Fuzzypeggy · 13/12/2016 17:58

It was when you said you normally don't care what pms look like, therefore naming some Kind of exception for her, that's what I meant

Newbrummie · 13/12/2016 17:59

As for she could be a ceo ? Really ? They never seem to use this marvellous skill set they have after they've been prime minister do they ?

justwanttoweeinpeace · 13/12/2016 18:00

Sortthetache - I'm with you on this one.

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 13/12/2016 18:01

No I'm making an exception because I am discussing what a pm wears when I wouldn't normally care, it's been in the news, it's topical. I'm not sexist honest!
