Any advice would be really helpful, thank you Smile

I have recently hit my goal weight (lost 8 st 7 lbs) and am really comfortable with how I look. I now feel like it's a good time to start with makeup.

Have you Facebook?

If you have there's a brilliant group called "Mrs Gloss and the Goss" loads of advice and quite a few mn'ers on.

I like the caked on look so I won't be much use to you Smile

If you have really never worn it before I would start with very little. A touch of tinted moisturiser, Mascara, a bit of blusher and maybe just some Carmex lip balm to give you glossy lips. See how that feels before venturing into foundation, eyeshadow, lipstick etc. Enjoy!

I love the makeup revolution I love makeup chocolate eyeshadow palettes.
The white chocolate one would be good for you, warm browns and great for everyday. Cover all the lid and 1cm above with the pale brown, blend it out and add a dab of the darker one in the crease and on the lower lash line.
Check out YouTube for eyeshadow blending tips. Blending is key.

I agree tinted moisturiser! I can't suggest one as I wear double wear - heavy coverage.

Sorry I can't suggest a mascara, I'm still struggling!

Brushes wise try and grab a Real techniques brush kit. They are great.

Lipsticks and balms I adore soap and glorys! No one seems to mention them but honestly they are fantastic. Especially the Matt one called " super nude" is a lovely nude that is perfect for everyday and isn't too much. Perfect for you I think!

Blushes Sleek ones are great, very pigmented so a little goes a long way and cheap! Superdrug sell them.

Bronzer, to warm you up I love Benefits hoola. Not cheap but amazing and lasts forever. If out of your price range Bourjous bronzing powder (looks like a choc bar) is great but go for the darker one as the lighter one doesn't do much.

And use a primer and setting spray! Rimmels primer is fab and make up revolutions spray too.

And Mrs Gloss and the goss is fab!

LollipopViolet · 11/12/2016 07:25

I've just discovered Pixiwoo on YouTube, love their tutorials. They use some expensive stuff but will also use cheaper stuff too.

I've just started wearing more make up, and use it to enhance the bits of me I like (eyes) and cover the bits that I find less appealing (stupid hormonal spot breakouts).

YouTube is definitely your friend :)

Forgot to say well done on the weight loss that's an amazing achievement.

LaylaTheMaidAMilking · 12/12/2016 17:29

Well done on the weight loss DarkEast. How about now going to The Body Shop/Boots/Debenhams where they give you a master class - and some free beauty products!

IamWendy · 12/12/2016 17:36

Maybe instead of foundation, use mineral powders, as you can build them up from a mattifying whisper thin cover, to a much stronger cover.
They feel light too, foundation will feel like a thick mask to a virgin face!
Then soft kohl eye liner, and mascara. Then hit up Pinterest/YouTube for looks you might want to expand into.

FinallyHere · 12/12/2016 17:53

Congratulations and well done.

For a real treat, I would recommend www.cosmeticsalacarte.com/services/personalised-lessons/. Unlike people behind beauty counters in shops, these people are not on commission and, if you book an appointment, will take the time to find exactly what works for you. Enjoy!

RedMapleLeaf · 12/12/2016 22:27

I recommend starting with a BB cream rather than foundation or tinted moisturiser.

Do you have a good skin care routine?

Kirriemuir · 13/12/2016 08:22

Real techniques brushes are on boots 3:2 just now. Some good sets available. They are good brushes.

BeauHeaux · 13/12/2016 08:43

Also, I can't recommend Lisa Eldridge on YouTube highly enough. She's a very well respected professional make-up artist, she has lots of videos on the basics of foundation and whatnot, definitely a great place to start.

BeauHeaux · 13/12/2016 08:44

Plus, well done on the weightloss!

oldlaundbooth · 13/12/2016 18:28

I have no suggestions but just to say congratulations on your weight loss! 8 and half stones ShockSmile💐

TheresAlwaysTimeForTea · 13/12/2016 18:34

Wow amazing weight loss. I'd start with a nice BB cream. Maybelline do some good ones and a peachy blush and some mascara and see how you get on. Build up from there! And have fun with it!

fairgame84 · 14/12/2016 06:54

Yy to Lisa Eldridge her tutorials are good. She uses quite a few products but you can just use the basics and get a good result. For example in one tutorial she uses highligter and powder - I don't have or need either of these so I just skip that bit.

Clinique mascara is very good. It's easy to apply and remove so ideal for a beginner.

Congrats on the weight loss Flowers

Well done! I wear very little make-up and consider the essentials to be a tinted moisturiser (or foundation - I own both), a powder, a blusher, eye liner, mascara and eye lash curlers. I mostly buy No. 7 from boots and they regularly give out vouchers for money off with your purchases. I'm currently finding their blushers a bit severe and bought my teenage daughter a bourjois blusher instead. I've always been told to test foundation to the back of my wrist. I've always liked eye lash curlers. Personally I always wear black eye liner and mascara, even though I'm very pale skinned and probably would be advised to go for brown. I think that is basically all I know about make-up!

Orangebird69 · 14/12/2016 07:05

Congrats on the weight loss! I would suggest you get skincare sorted first before bothering with make up. Do you have a routine as such?

CaptainDaydream · 14/12/2016 08:24

Pinterest has lots of great 'how to's.

After years of only wearing eye liner and mascara I can now put on a full face of make up without looking like a teenager let loose with a trowel.

I also popped into boots and spoke to the girl on the No7 counter who helped me choose the right shades of foundation, lipstick etc. She has that little machine that tells you which shades go with your skin tone and gives you a handy little card with them on it.

I'm loving experimenting and probably spending too much money. Good luck!

Dontwantanicknamethanks · 14/12/2016 10:18

I think make up is about how much time you have, budget and what makes you look 'fresh' within that context. So I no longer have the time to focus on mascara, for example, but have never skipped the moisturiser, sunscreen bit. BB cream with factor works for me as a concealer and a blusher/lip balm makes me look more awake. Don't have time for anything else (but never underestimate the power of good mascara!). Maybelline blush baby is good or nars multiple stick. I also love bronzer but not updated my guerlain palette for about 5 years now and it's still a good colour.
