Rough year really shows on my face

I've just turned 44 and suddenly I look like the bloom is gone.
I've had a bloody horrible stress filled and sad year, and it really shows on my face.
The skin on the sides of my lips have loosened, exacerbated by repeated cold sores that have scarred making me looked down mouthed. My eyes have folded at the sides making me look tired. My skin has roughened and looks stressed. My hair has thinned . My hands are yellow and crone like. Make up isn't doing it anymore.

I'm just not ready. How can I get a bit more shiny? I have Botox on my crows feet and occasionally do a home skin peel. But it's just not touching it any more.

Get an environ facial (realistically you'll need a course). I swear it's totally changed how K feel about my face. Very high tech and pumps your skin full of vitamin A and collagen. Pricey but if you can afford one every two weeks I think you'll see a huge difference I did after just two treatments. They are roughly £90 each though so not cheap.

Gosh that is pricey. But will look into it.

Sorry to hear you have had a horrible year, OP.

Drastically reducing alcohol gave me the most rapid improvement in my skin, along with oil cleansing. Have you considered quitting sugar? It's quite easy, you hardly miss sweet stuff after the first few weeks. I did this a year ago, just after Xmas. To begin with I was miffed because I didn't see any of the much touted effects, but several weeks ago (so about 10 months in) my skin started to look really quite nice.

Facial exercises for the areas you are concerned about around the mouth/eyes?

You might think this is weird but coconut oil works wonders might not see results in a flash but definitely in 2-3 months

I recommend Krill Oil supplements, I started taking it for my clicky joints but it also helped quite a bit with my dry skin and hair. Also Nip and Fab Glycolic Fix Daily Cleansing Pads loosens the rough, flakey skin and makes my complexion brighter. This is the one that I use.

Ooh thanks for the suggestions. I am a lone parent of a small child and have become somewhat of a hermit. Just wear the same rags as I work from home.

Sorry for hijack op but can I ask Tim tam why krill oil?

brillopants · 11/12/2016 18:17

Sugar is in every bloody thing isn't it. But reducing refined sugar has certainly been on my mind, my diet is pretty good as I'm veggie and make sure we eat lots of greens. But if I'm on my own it's toast all the wAy.
I'm a keen runner but have been injured for 6 weeks and feel yucky.

Will get some nip& fab pads and go from there.

Facercise is good to open the eyes up and lift the corners of the mouth. Helps me anyway. I age 5 yrs if I stop it for a week. I just do 10 mins every other night in front of the TV. Amazon has the book. Sorry you've had a rubbish year. I found stress always got to my gums and teeth for some reason. Really hard to prioritise self care when you're a LP but you are absolutely deserving of as much pampering as you can muster xxx

Seriously coconut oil as a moisturiser! Get a big jar for £5 next time you're in the supermarket and it'll last ages. It's amazing.

travailtotravel · 11/12/2016 22:00

lots of water makes a difference to me, as well as regular cleanse and moisturise - i have established that it almost doesn't matter what with, its just doing it regularly that matters.

Also, i drink a cup of hot water with lemon in it first thing. I think this is some kind of magic woo as it gives me such a zing.

I also take a skin hair and nails supplement that is high in Vit D now too.

Simple things but they make a difference to me

brillopants · 11/12/2016 23:37

Skin and hair vits on my list. Coconut oil- I've used it on my hair, never thought to put it on my face!

I have quite reactive, easily scarring skin and looked at avene triacneal. Is it worth the money?

I must get out of my clothes rut too. I literally wear rags,- leggings and a couple of stretchy ancient H&M jersey skirts and baggy tshirt and hoodie, all faded from washing. They make me feel faded from washing. I may just replace with some colour. Sick of grey and washed out navy.
Not much I can do about hair, I've be- fringed myself as all one length really showed how thin it was. Think it looks better. I'll smother my entire self with coconut oil hair and all.
