I'd be grateful if you could tell me when you moved from boys' to men's clothes. I'm struggling to know where to shop for my skinny 14 year old. Most clothes only o up to age 9/10 it seems.
I'd be grateful for store recommendations.

River Island

TK Maxx ( if you can bear it. Grin)

Topman they do size 29 hips

TroubleinDaFamily · 09/12/2016 20:08

Primark do mens XS

AlabasterSnowball · 09/12/2016 20:09

You need to go for shops that do small sizes, Troubles recommendations are good.
Next do 29" hips and Primark do smaller men's sizes if he'll wear them.

Next and Zara were the best for us. But, you need to ask Next to get things in, or buy online, as the stores don't really carry the range in the sizes. The range does go to about age 15. Zara are hit and miss, in that age category, but can deliver wonderful stuff. Also Jonnie B, from Boden ain't all bad. HTH.

H&M go up to age 15. Most high street online have S and XS - deliver to local shop for free. River island and next certainly do.

AugustRose · 09/12/2016 20:22

It depends how skinny really, my DS (20) has always been v skinny and at 5ft 7 is can only get trousers/jeans from a few places.

Agree with H&M, they are good for jeans and tops/jumpers/shirts. Burton are good for school trousers as they do 28" waist and short legs plus they do slim shirts at reasonable prices.

eyelevelgrill · 09/12/2016 20:32

Healthy skinny if that makes sense?

This is very helpful - am making notes!

I'd stick with boys for as long as possible, simply because of the price. H&M and Zara go up to age 14/15 ish, which, in my experience is the same as XS in Primark.

DS (aged 13) has shot up this year and is now around 5'7". He's wearing Mens' small now, most successfully price and quality seem to be H & M and Gap.

Appreciated xx

Next age 16 was too short in the leg for my boys at that stage. Hollister was the only place I could find that did a small enough waist with a long leg.

JemimaMuddledUp · 10/12/2016 03:12

DS1is 14 and is taller than your DS at 5'8" but we've been shopping for men's ranges for a year or two now. His waist is 26" but Next jeans in a 28" fit him with a belt. He needs a 33" leg and the 26" waist only come in 31" or 29", so if he was shorter he would be able to have 26". He is fairly broad across the shoulders and has long arms and so needs a men's Small or Medium top depending on the fit.

The price does jump significantly when the go into adult sizes.

Blue inc new look men mandmdirect

Zoflorabore · 10/12/2016 07:09

Ds is 13 and 5ft 10 but stocky with size 12 feet! Been buying adults sizes for a couple of years.
He's mostly into sports wear so never difficult to find things but Next is good if we need something a bit nicer and Prinark is great for basics and holiday clothes.
All of ds's friends wear adult clothes now, the boys sections I found were quite babyish, we had no choice though as he just kept growing.

My ds hates jeans and loves the summer as he is truly happiest in shorts.

Statelychangers · 10/12/2016 08:08

Great thread - I have a 2 very skinny teenagers, dd now fits into a small size 6 but ds is more worrying. We've relied on Boden for jeans - they have an extra long option. He wears boots so the trousers meet the top of his shoes. He's a 26 inch waist, 32 inch leg...top shop was too big. H&M teen range does appeal to him both the style and the sizes. Often I find the larger teen sizes are huge and a bit shapeless especially for girls.

FernetBranca · 10/12/2016 08:20

If you have a Uniqlo anywhere near you, they are very good at this sizing point (the men's XS). They seem to cut to a fairly small/trim template so we found things looked good, not just scaled down IYKWIM.

imjessie · 10/12/2016 08:45

Next online go up to 16. They problem I have with tall skinny dd is size 6 adults is too big but kids clothes are too short . We muddled between the two as she wears size 4:6 alfult leggings when I can get them and hoodies so it's not a big deal at the mo and she will fill out a bit soon I'm sure . I get her school trousers from next as they do slim versions and I buy the next age up and take them in .

eyelevelgrill · 10/12/2016 12:10

I am Really grateful for this. Will pop his measurements in in a mo.
