Is size 16 huge ?

honeylou42 · 04/12/2016 14:57

I'm speaking about myself of cause, I have very little self confidence and think this is due to my size. But people always say how well I carry my weight and that I don't look that big. I think I dress really nicely but some people seem really happy in their own skin which leads me back to thinking they have self belief, and that certain je ne sais quoi. How do I get this ? I would be really grateful for any tips Blush

Yikes that's me stuffed then , I am 5 foot 7 grinconfusedblush

oldlaundbooth · 04/12/2016 17:17

Depends on height and how you carry your weight.

I'm 5'5 and was a size 16, the majority of which appeared to be on my face and upper thighs! Not a good look.

I look like a totally different person at a size 10.

HateMrTumble · 04/12/2016 17:23

Yes. Also a 14/16..

NicknameUsed · 04/12/2016 17:30

That is really interesting Liefie. I weigh nearly three stone less than you, yet I am a size 12 for jeans and a 10 top (no boobs Sad)

JessicaPeach · 04/12/2016 17:45

Im that 5'10 size 16 and I am overweight but not crazily so (my bmi is 26) When im a 'good' size 16 im definitely pushing into being too big, at a small 14 I look pretty slim. Also depends where you carry your weight, mine is pretty even with big boobs and a bum so im pretty lucky with it really.

LiefieLiefie · 04/12/2016 17:48

I know Nickname, I'm always interested in these things. I'm just under 11 stone now and could probably get into size 10 bottoms at 10 and a half stone. I have massive boobs so any dresses have to be a 12, even at my lowest weight of 9st 10 - I never lost any weight there.

I'm 5ft 9 so not that much taller than you, but have massively reduced my body fat % through weight training. I'm fitting into the same clothes now at just under 11 stone that before I could only get into at a much lower weight previously.

Kazplus2 · 04/12/2016 17:48

It's big and unlikely to be healthy. That said, it doesn't stop you dressing nicely or being attractive.

DailyMailSucksAss · 04/12/2016 18:41

I'm 5 7 and 14/16 bottom and am overweight. But even at a normal BMI I was never smaller than a 12/14 bottom and still looked plump. Some people are just meant to be big I guess.

DailyMailSucksAss · 04/12/2016 18:43

My top has always been a 10/12. I would have far preferred my proportions to be reversed.

ninnypoo · 04/12/2016 18:46

I was 5'11 and wearing size 16 jeans (from Topshop) but was a healthy BMI.

Saying that I wasn't happy with my appearance so I lost a stone and now wear size 12 jeans.

BusterGonad · 05/12/2016 07:05

I'm 5"9 and am currently a 14 to 16, I wouldn't say I was fat but I've certainly got meat on the bone, I'm happiest as a 12 to 14. I've put on a stone this year due to my life becoming very sedentary. I would say these days a size 16 is pretty normal, wether that's a good thing or bad thing it's not for me to judge. In my previous job I was quite shocked to find that a size 16 was the smaller end of the size scale and a lot of the women were younger than me. People are certainly getting bigger.

BusterGonad · 05/12/2016 07:06

Ninny 5"11 and a size 12. You must have crackin legs!

Thefitfatty · 05/12/2016 07:34

Is it huge? No. But it isn't small either. It's in the medium range. Could you be overweight? Sure. But you could also be at the top of a healthy BMI. You might look great at 16 with curves in all the right places, or more apple shaped and not as conventionally attractive.

But it shouldn't be about appearance, it should be about health and how you feel. The important questions is how to you feel physically at size 16? Do you feel fit? Are you active? Do you eat reasonably well? Would you have to massively restrict in order to lose more weight?

If the answer to all of those is yes, than you should feel happy where you are.

It's about confidence and feeling good about your body and knowing your treating it well.

knowler · 05/12/2016 11:57

Please be nice to yourself and concentrate on developing your own self-esteem. If you've lost weight to get to a 16, be proud of yourself - it's a tough thing to do so well done. "Huge" sounds pejorative and is also not particularly tactful when a lot of ppl posting on here will - happily - be that size. FWIW, I'm currently close to a size 20 and would love to get back to a size 16. I won't consider myself "huge" if I do so.

Size and weight and a person's happiness is totally individual. Personally, I feel healthy and slim (enough) at a size 14-16. For others, they "need" to be a size 8 before they feel comfortable. That's fine - we're all different.

rightknockered · 05/12/2016 12:27

I'm 5ft 7 (just) and weight 10stones and a size 8 -10
I weight train 3/4 times a week and do HIIT 4 times a week.I know women who weigh less than me and are at least a size bigger. Eating healthily and doing some resistance work will change your body if you're unhappy with it OP

DailyMailCrap · 05/12/2016 12:52

Same rightknockered only I'm 5 7, 11stones and a size 10. I row everyday and also weight train and rock climb 3/4 times a week.

Myrobalanna · 05/12/2016 13:08

I think - despite it being average and despite being a 16 now myself - that it's not "huge" but it is big.

I'm quite tall and I still have a waist at size 16, but I feel my body and I am fat. For example, when I reach inside my collar to scratch my back: the skin is so squishy. That's body fat which I do not need and it didn't used to be there. I don't even want to talk about my arse and thighs. I feel unhealthy.

That's my personal feeling about my own body and obviously other people won't feel the same so I don't want to say a 16 is good or bad! It's bad for me, that's all. Not huge but bigger than I want to be.

Kirriemuir · 05/12/2016 16:11

I used to be a 16/18. I didn't see how fat I was until i dropped a lot of weight. I always though I looked fine. I didn't really.

Pisssssedofff · 05/12/2016 16:41

Forget the numbers. Look at nutrition ... I'm a fine one to talk, But I can have 5 biscuits a day and that's 1000 but I put weight on or I can have 2900 of meat, nuts, veg and loose weight and that is how your body works. All calories are not equal. Food is healing medicine, start looking st it that way and you'll be in great shape ASAP

It's very dependent on shape. I'm an hourglass (little more rectangle now with diatasis recti) so I need a larger size on my hips/boobs than middle. My bikini size is 16 because that gives me the proper coverage in the right places. But I'm not flabby, or unfit. The smallest I've ever been is a size 8 and that was at 9 stone 3 (i'm 12 stone now). I don't think 16 is big unless you feel uncomfortable at it (I felt as uncomfortable at 16 as I did at 8, neither were my healthy weight).

MrsGsnow18 · 05/12/2016 18:00

Size of clothes I think is irrelevant as different people are different shapes etc. You need to be happy/confident in yourself.
People who slouch over for example end up making themselves look larger sometimes.
I don't carry weight well, I'm usually a 12, but sometimes a 14 when I put on a bit of weight. It goes to all the wrong places and I'm just lumpy. Yet I know women who are size 14/16 and who have curves in all the right places and look amazing!

Gingernaut · 05/12/2016 18:07

I'm 4' 11" with a small frame and a size 14-16. I am noticeably overweight.

If you're built like Mitanda Hart then 16 may well be underweight.

Size is nothing without the context of height and build.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 05/12/2016 18:25

No not by any stretch of the imagination.
