Am looking to spend about £50. She is a complete make up addict, also very much into fake tan and all the other stuff (lashes, nails etc)

Any ideas? Chocolate

I think make up is such a personal thing, that it's a risky purchase. So my suggestions a generic;

Urban decay eye palette - I've heard good things about them and there are bound to be colours in the palettes to suit.

Make up bag
Make up brushes

How about a set of really good makeup brushes? I've bought some Real Techniques ones for teen DD this year.

Liiinoo · 02/12/2016 10:23

If she is really into makeup I wouldn't risk spending £50 on something that won't be to her taste.

BObbi Brown and Mac both do makeup lessons for £40-£50. You can choose the focus of the lesson e.g. eyes, contouring etc. Once the lesson is over you the cost of the lesson is deducted from any purchases she makes.

BabooshkaKate · 02/12/2016 10:29

Get her a set of SLAY make up brushes. Find online, I am THIS CLOSE to getting a set for myself.

Noooo, don't do that, it's such a waste of money given that you can book free sessions elsewhere and there are endless tutorials on YouTube for anything you could ever possibly want to learn to do -- and you can go at your own pace, watch again or watch multiple videos to find the best method for you.

Liiinoo · 02/12/2016 10:40

Babooshka.
I obviously wasn't clear in my post. For the £40-50 you get the make up lesson AND makeup of your choice up to the cost of the lesson. So an hours private tutorial and £40-50 to spend on the make up of your choice. So effectively the lesson is free. I just thought that would be better than the OP spending money on something that might be the wrong tone or texture for her niece.

I have just bought the Urban Decay Smoky Eye Palette for a 20 year old friend who loves make-up.
It was £38.50 in Debenhams.

BusterGonad · 02/12/2016 17:07

Before you purchase anything could you have a 'snoop' at what she already has? That would be a great starting point as you don't want to double up on anything! I'd say if she was obsessed she probably like Mac, Urban Decay, maybe Smashbox who do the best sets at Christmas.

itwillbebetter · 02/12/2016 18:36

I've previously bought her the urban decay palettes, which she loves. She doesn't live near enough for me to snoop. Make up brushes are a good idea also possibly the smash box primer, I've heard that's good?

I'd go for mac lipstick in whirl and lip pencil in spice (what Kylie Jenner wears bleugh but teens love it) also any of the hourglass highlighters or a contour kit from mac or similar

BabooshkaKate · 02/12/2016 18:45

Smashbox primers are alright, nothing special top be honest.

What about a beauty set from The Balm or something?

Frazzled2207 · 02/12/2016 18:48

Benefit are selling nice box sets of make up in attractive tins at boots

PossumInAPearTree · 02/12/2016 18:53

A kylie Jenner eyeshadow palette.

ILoveAGoodBrusselSprout · 02/12/2016 18:58

Im a DM of a 19 yr old, and she loves Mac. She buys their primer (there's a shimmery one for going out, which she loves) but also Urban Decay eye primer. Mac mascara is a favourite - you can't go wrong with black, plus their fake eyelashes come in so many different 'styles'.

There's a new product that she and her younger sister are getting - lip topper. It's hard to come by from the manufacturer (who have a waitlist for it) but there are some going on eBay. There's one by Jouer but if you Google lip topper you'll find various stockists.

Hope this may help

BusterGonad · 02/12/2016 19:01

I like Elevenswans idea, would her colouring suit such a shade? Hourglass stuff is great and covetable too. Contour kits are a thing. I love the Smashbox mat lipsticks. They are amazing and the colours are really pigmented and different. OP if you ha e an idea of something look on makeupalley for honest reviews.

BusterGonad · 02/12/2016 19:04

Another thing in regards to lip toppers Smashbox do a mat lip topper which obviously turns any lipstick mat!!!!

Bought this set of real techniques brushes on offer from boots yesterday, maybe something like that for her?

itwillbebetter · 06/12/2016 08:19

Thank you so much for all the suggestions. I have gone with the contour set and a lip topper - hope she likes them!
